Darcus Howe should be treated with respect and interviewed properly, but calling this 'fascist' is absolutely ridiculous. it's just a very, very bad interview conducted by somebody who seems too tired to actually think straight. I have a feeling at one pint she even called him 'Marcus Dowe'.

I got a Fox News vibe from this, too. Getting his name wrong just to throw him off or filibuster the interview is a real Fox News tactic.

Burnov is clearly someone who has been touched by the pathos of the violence in London and whose reaction to those feelings is to regurgitate that violence in order to quell it.

Hey, Burnov, we get it. You don't like the rioting and the head-busting tough talk is how you deal with those feelings.

But let us all be clear that what you advocate is nothing more than you dealing with some scenes of violence that affect you. Really, nothing more.

Being clear on this is being gracious towards you. Just keep that in mind.

These people aren't fighting for any sort of freedom from some sort of perceived oppression, its simply the lowest functioning elements of society consumed by more emotion than their brains can contain.

I'm sorry, but people beating bystanders up and looting them, and businesses that have nothing to do with perceived injustice on behalf of the police is total crap.

There's a certain section of the population who is responsibe for this, and everyone else with an ounce of civility is simply enduring their financial hardships as best they can.

Burnov, how do you lash out as a disenfranchised, broke, youth with no future? Stage a sit in? That wouldn't even get coverage or notice from whatever restaurant you did it in.

You say that they have nothing to riot about, but look at the economy, their prospects, and their lives. For the first time in ~100 years, there's no possibility that a person can realistically have a better life than the generation before them. There are no good jobs, education is devalued, and there is no hope.

I know you must loathe those "lowest functioning elements" (read poors/Pakis/niggers). I admit rioting over things like a hockey game is stupid and frivolous, and that people do stupid and impulsive things when gripped by herd/mob behavior, but stop with your white-privilege, middle-upper class horseshit and realize that there are real problems in the world short of a boot on your neck and a gun in your face.

You don't have to endorse something to understand it.

Obviously there are underlying issues that need to be addressed, but it doesn't at all excuse the more heinous crimes committed by some of the rioters (arson, etc.), or the fact that some percentage of them are just opportunists. You can understand where the anger comes from and still punish those looting and setting fire to homes.

Every time I hear the word 'relatively' ahead of something awful I feel a bit ill. People have been killed guarding their property. These aren't rich people; these are neighbours from the same socioeconomic backgrounds as the rioters. I grew up in a lower working class background. A lot of my friends still live in the same areas.
This is a poor interview, but don't let that suddenly convince you that heinous things aren't happening to ordinary people.
