It's the classic plot from Outer Limits episode, "The Empire of Fear" and the "Watchmen" comic book.

NO SIR! THE MOON MONEY IS MINE!

The Mothership - 2011-08-16
What he's saying is that in the absence of a real reason to invest in our nation's infrastructure (other than the obvious one - that it is crumbling, and increased public spending would reinvest money back into the economy through job production in the public and private sectors) we should make one up and just spend the fucking money. I might suggest a master race of giant space ants.

baleen - 2011-08-16 This clip is so clearly just a sound byte to make the Ron Pauldancers (I'll come up with something better as election year progresses) feel better about themselves. You can't talk about economics on TV anyway, it always ends up just being football. Krugman hates this shit.

From an ecological perspective, the Keynesian approach that Krugman is touting is a nightmare. As Krugman's sassy example illustrates, the system is entirely based on production for the sake of production, which leads to unnecessary waste and degradation of resources. I'm not saying the free marketers are any better. Both approaches are based on maximizing consumption.

Sephirock - 2011-08-16 It's always like that.......liberals make conservatives look bad because that's their agenda, and conservatives make liberals look bad because that's their agenda.......but really both sides are wrong in their own aspects. What they need to do is work together and combine the business know-how of conservatives and the realisticness of liberals and get rid of the consuming parts of both.
|
GravidWithHate - 2011-08-16 You know, I could go into the logical fallacy you're espousing here. I could point out all the times liberals have been right and conservatives wrong. I could show you graphs of budget deficits and job creation under democratic and republican administrations. I could even point out that liberalism and conservationism are ultimately founded on two different and largely mutually exclusive points of view about what society is, what the role of government is, and what the relationship should be between the individual citizen and the state.
Instead: Fuck you you brain dead centrist cunt, you are what is wrong with politics and the human race, kill yourself and kill everyone who thinks like you.
|
Sephirock - 2011-08-16 And conservatives could do all of that to you. I'm not saying that Republicans and Democrats are equally right or wrong, just that reality is always not completely one sided like you think.

|
GravidWithHate - 2011-08-16 If one person says one plus one is two, and another says one plus one is five, it does not then follow that two people both have good ideas about math and the solution is to get them to work together on a collaborative solution.
You are the reason the modern republican party is so fucking insane. They know that to get what they want all they have to do is send out the Teabaggers and Jesus freaks to amp up the crazy another notch, and idiots will obligingly redefine the center another notch to the right.
|
Sephirock - 2011-08-17 No you are because you refuse to compromise just like Republicans. You think your liberal agenda is 100% perfect just like they think they are, you're just another extremist just like Republicans. I'm on the progressive side but at least I know that I'm wrong sometimes.
