Ron Paul is just trying to tap the 'rich old people' demographic. These are people who 'made a lot of money' when Reagan was president, 'had more fun' in the '80s and fondly remember that 'there were less Mexicans' back then. The reality of what Reagan did a quarter of a century ago doesn't matter. They've tied their memories of that time period to his refurbished image.

Maybe... sorta... He motivated the religious right and had no problem with that. He was definitely more moderate in other arenas. Spending, taxes, etc.

Let's see, Reagan pandered to the religious right but passed no legislation favoring them, said he was pro-life yet did nothing to restrict a woman's right to choose, nominated centrist SC justices, was hawkish on war to the point of lawbreaking, and raised taxes five different times.

Its an oversimplification to say that Reagan was politically to the left of Obama, but still completely accurate.
