Some of these shots are so vividly post-apocalyptic. The pause three mintutes in; you know the cameraman realized just then he was walking into something otherworldly. 18:29, over and over. Watch the tree.
That 3 minutes of blackness that follows. COUGH HACK "Boy that was close" COUGH HACK "I found a pole" COUGH HACK and finally an old guy still cracking a joke. fuck.
I am not watching this. It was depressing enough when it was happening. It's depressing enough that it's been ten freaking years.
That said, I probably will never forget 9/11 and how seeing those towers fall live on tv made me feel. At the same time, however, I think a lot of stupidity followed in the response to this and is ongoing still.
Holy fuck, that's some pretty hi-def video for 2001. I remember. I was eating breakfast and had no idea what was going on. I saw the second plane hit and was just baffled. Obviously all my classes were canceled for the day.
HD was becoming standard at the broadcast level, but it had not gotten to the consumer level nearly as much. So you'd shoot a bunch of beautiful HD footage then down-convert it to shitty SD.
