I sure hope MC Scared of Bees doesn't see this.

Chalkdust - 2011-09-22

that name's actually an abbreviation for "MC Scared of Bees But Friend to All Hornets"

Pompoulus - 2011-09-22

Danger and pain huh.

Uh yeah, me too.

MrBuddy - 2011-09-22

That... was disgusting.

Anyway, the hornets are carnivorous and called suzumebachi (giant sparrow bee). If you listen closely you can hear the woman who's husband was killed use the word. You don't really get an appreciation for their size until you see one next to a ruler. I'd heard them described as being "as big as your thumb," but small as I am, I wasn't too sure. Is that ruler in inches or centimeters?

If you haven't figured it out from Pompoulus' link, inches.

Robin Kestrel - 2011-09-22

Ouch, the pain...ouch, I am stung!

The related "hornet" tag video, "Bees Battle Hornets From Hell" shows how some Japanese honeybees have evolved a method of killing giant hornets with massed suicide attacks, which kinda.. well no I guess that doesn't really make anything better at all.
