I'm more surprised and shocked by all of the surprise and shock. There is no way a man could compete at his level without taking what he did, and to even assume that his competitors or other athletes don't is naive.

Yes, but take in mind the myth that was build around him, and how offended he would get every time somebody suggested he was taking something. The fall from grace of this man is nothing short of astonishing.

There's a lot of schadenfreude going on. He was one of the last Great White Hopes left, and with him knocked down Mitt Romney is pretty much the last one left.

Good point.

I don't buy that Lance was doping the entire time, or at all. He has been tested literally hundreds of times. Some self-proclaimed experts calling themselves the United States Anti-Doping Agency, a non-profit that has zero jurisdiction and is not even a government body (the "agency" is misleading) decides to make a name for itself by bringing down the biggest name in biking.

Until there is actual hard proof I just think people are wringing the guy for money and attention.

Yet Lance has remained pretty much silent regarding the whole thing. He has yet to show hard evidence against these accusations. Not giving into any side of this, all i know is that, as chief wiggum would say: all profesional athletes and astronauts have been drunk and into drugs at some point.

I think most cycling fans realized that any dude who could beat Pantani at his doping height HAD to be on drugs.

Man, hindsight is god damn amazing sometimes.

Since the beginning of competitive cycling cyclists have been ingesting things other than food to ease the effects riding 100+ miles a day on their bodies. The only thing that has changed in recent years is the level of outrage at doing so.

I think it's fine that cycling is becoming a "cleaner" sport right now, that's not a bad thing, particularly because the methods to ease the effects have become perverse. I'm thinking here of blood transfusions, intravenous injections, and so on.

What's a bummer is that a whole generation of really talented professional cyclists who were acting similarly to professional cyclists since the beginning are now getting thrown under the bus.

With that said, the destruction of this last generation of cyclists probably needs to happen to persuade the current generation to not dope.

Every time I hear about the scandal I think of that TV show where the homeless crackhead guy was kicked out of the sport of insulting Lance Armstrong.
