ok, sure... 5 stars for confusion.

better than twerking Jimmy Fallon.

lotsmoreorcs, sorry but I don't know your background. You still homeless, or are you an oogle?

baleen - 2014-09-02

Lef - 2014-09-02

worth visiting the link.

At some point in the last 10 years, the word "hot" changed meaning. it either changed for me as I got older, or it actually changed within overall society, and hotness is not what it used to be.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

Incest, furries, and now oogles. She's awesome. Any word on when Miley will go juggalo?

spikestoyiu - 2014-09-02

Turns out this dude wasn't necessarily homeless in the sense that he left home and could have returned at any time. Oh, and he had a warrant out for his arrest.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2014-09-02

Some part of that is probably true for most of the neo-hobo crowd, so that's really pretty appropriate.

infinite zest - 2014-09-02

I'm pretty sure this is the same Jesse that lived with me for a week or so. He'd never hurt a fly. He was hopping trains with another friend and just passing through. I had a couch and there you go. What he allegedly did is pretty much what would happen all the time at my place, but we never reported it. I live in an artist commune of sorts and people come and go, but I've always been able to tell who's genuine and who isn't.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

Speaking of artist communes, are you on DA yet?

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

Speaking of DA and Miley, I don't know if I posted this. I was planning on doing a painting of Miley Cyrus in a fursuit, along with Ren and Stimpy and a whole buttload of Illuminati symbolism.

http://fav.me/d775woi

I never got beyond the rough sketch (the painting itself turned into that portrait of Ren) but I still want to do some Miley Cyrus art. Maybe Miley and a pack of oogles?

infinite zest - 2014-09-02

not yet.. I think it's something that runs in my family though. My cousin does these incredible spraypaint murals and longboard designs in Australia but I just draw on cocktail napkins :)

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

doooooo iiiiittttttttttttttttttttt

EH there ya go. Those are some old ones. I don't really know how to categorize anything and might get in trouble for the Kareteka one but I never thought about taking a closer picture before I scrapped my harmonium. :)

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

Nice! It looks very Asian. Is there a story behind Wolfie?

infinite zest - 2014-09-02

Nah I just needed a name. :) Cold wing was a band of mine, or should've been more of a band but life intervenes sometimes. I guess I'm inspired by Yoshitaka Amano but I never took a class.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

I was going to say even earlier than that! Your animal-like figure in the fourth one, particularly, reminds me a lot of those old Edo-period yokai prints.

spikestoyiu - 2014-09-03

What the fuck is happening here

infinite zest - 2014-09-03

I got a Llama.

infinite zest - 2014-09-03

Yeah I drew those around the time when Pink Tentacle went away. But I was mostly drawing inspiration from Jordan Mechner's Kareteka because that was the only game that I had when I was a kid. Well, that and I had just been laid off from the Opera and the unemployment department had like one job for me at Enterprise, or Avis, one of those. I know nothing about cars except that they go down the street and need gas, and luckily I never even got to the interview part, which would've meant I'd lose my UI, while figuring out what it was I really wanted to do with my life.

The Mothership - 2014-09-02

He's a local boy from my neck of the woods, I'll just leave this right here.

posertom - 2014-09-02

I just found out about oogles, and I'm very excited. Does it rhyme with boggle or frugal?

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-02

I only learned the term this year but I doubt I've been more than one degree removed from oogles since the 90s.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-09-02

I have no opinion other than, without knowing what it was up against, I'm unironically happy that "Wrecking Ball" won. That video is genius on so many levels, and here I am being as unironic as a heart attack.

infinite zest - 2014-09-02

Yeah it's an amazing song (and you probably see what I normally listen to in the 73q.) Once in a while I'll get a pop music bug that just sticks around until I forget about it, but this one stuck. It was a while back but my friends in Guantanamo Baywatch were going up to Tacoma to see her, and I didn't really get it. Is this some "meta" thing? Nope. And the videos I saw really made me wish I had taken them up on their offer for that extra ticket.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

Shorthaired chick licking a sledgehammer is always a winner in my books.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-09-02

The image of Miley naked on the wrecking ball works on a whole lot of levels. It's attention-grabbing, and it destroys her Disney-princess image, which is something she knows she needs to do, just demolish it, but more than that, in the context of the song, it's an evocative image of the central paradox of the lyric, about the psychic violence of relationships being a two-way street.

A naked woman on a wrecking ball is both destructive and vulnerable. A weapon that feels pain.

I came on like a wrecking ball

but all you did was wreck me.

I used to watch a video of one of her concerts from her transitional period. More than Britney Spears, Hillary Duff, etc, Miley has A SET OF PIPES, and her live style is loose enough that it's a throwback to the seventies, before live shows were supposed to be a reenactment of the videos.

She falls flat a lot. Her cover of "Smells like Teen Spirit" isn't the worst I've ever heard, but shit, we all know that's not saying much. But I think she's yet to really find herself. Everybody's expecting her to go full Lohan, but if she sticks to her weed, and "avoids the powders", (to quote a dead celebrity who didn't follow his own advice) gets the Disney Princess out of her system (and everybody else's) and settles down to using her gifts, she could be one the great divas one day.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-09-02

She's kind of an obnoxious know-it-all, but when I was 21 I was every bit as much of an obnoxious know-it-all, and I wasn't even famous.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

The first time I heard that song, I thought she was saying "I came in like a Rainbow (Dash)". I was very disappointed when I learned the actual lyrics.

lotsmoreorcs - 2014-09-02

you are truly horrible jhm

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-02

Infinitezest, I just coincidentally discovered Guantanamo Baywatch this month. Good stuff!

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-02

I think it was a coincidence, maybe you posted them on 73q and I noticed it there and then forgot.

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-02

Oh, and the one thing that makes Wrecking Ball distinctive or memorable is that the producer was clearly aware of witch house/seapunk/vaporwave/whatever the kids are calling "slowing down samples of 80s adult contemporary" this month. That's what the chorus sounds like in a kind of radio friendly way, and that sound is the hook.

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-02

Also, JHM's review of Wrecking Ball is pure Brett Easton Ellis.

baleen - 2014-09-02

I find JHM's adulation of teen girls to be kind of endearing for some reason.

infinite zest - 2014-09-02

Guantanamo Baywatch are friends of mine and they have one of my pinball machines. Spread the word.. I don't think they're too big outside of the west coast (PS they had that name before the Daily Show) :)

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-09-03

Thanks, Baleen, but what about my admiration of Mae West and Elaine Stritch? How come nobody ever notices that?

But this is a fascinating crop of young women. Even as some of them denounce their idea of "feminism" in instagram, they may be the first truly liberated generation ever, certainly the closest thing I'm going to see. And they're close to the only thing that allows me to have hope about the world I'll be leaving one day.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-09-03

>>Also, JHM's review of Wrecking Ball is pure Brett Easton Ellis.

Had to google him.

memedumpster - 2014-09-02

I know a filthy rich poverty tourist who pretends to live out of a van and suffer with the poors while having enough money to feed a large city.

It isn't cute or touching.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-09-02

I'm not getting your point, and that's not saying that you don't have one. I think you do, but it's not clear, and I'm interested. Are you saying he should help these people? That he's laughing at them?

memedumpster - 2014-09-02

I'm saying he feels guilty, but is so fucking rich asshole greedy that he assuages the guilt by pretending to have no money, while expecting everyone to pity him when something bad happens while he's LARPing poverty.

He's the dude version of the chick from Common People.

I don't care if he spends all his money on hookers and blow and leaves everyone in the street to die, I just wish he'd stop trying to pretend he gives a shit while refusing to do anything. It's the pretending that pisses me off.

I wish he were a Randroid, it would be better.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-02

When it comes to rich assholes, I'd rather have them living on the streets, pretending to have no money, than imposing their will through coercion and pretending that their power over society is legitimized through their superior political awareness and moral fortitude.

This is also why the hippies should have never grown up.

lotsmoreorcs - 2014-09-02

poverty is very fun when you can turn it on and off

Mister Yuck - 2014-09-02

The idea that there is a right and wrong way to be homeless has got to be the stupidest thing that I've ever heard. If some rich kid doesn't want to live like his rich parents raised him, then bully for him. If he's not authentic enough, then double good for him, authentic poverty is terrible.

memedumpster - 2014-09-02

It's not like I can stop him.

There shouldn't also be a right and wrong way to be a social elite then, either, so when the Sovereign Citizens ignore all laws and decency like a rich person, bully them.

Because I know there's no double standard on the side of money there.

infinite zest - 2014-09-02

I don't really know the story any more than Mothership's link above. I think I knew this guy but I'm not sure. He said he was from Bozeman but that's pretty SOP. I really don't mean to offend but West Salem seems pretty boring. I used to attend YMA at Willamette University and smoke pot and leave campus and there was nothing for a kid to do besides loiter in the safeway parking lot and smoke weed. It was back in the 90s so I'm sure it's different, but I had to get the fuck out of Portland when I was 17 too. I've known a lot of kids who are like the Jarvis Cocker song, but I don't think Jesse's one of them.

infinite zest - 2014-09-02

whoops left out the part where I was going to say that I don't think West Salem's necessarily a wealthy part of town. I could be wrong again, but I don't think this kid's mom could support a Burner kid's lifestyle, like so many crustrusts rely on.

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-02

Satire this dark can only happen by accident.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-09-03

I had google "oogle".

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2014-09-03

I had to boogie-oogie-oogie!

EvilHomer - 2014-09-03

They're the "poser" homeless kids, as opposed to the "cool" crustpunks. Oogles try to be cool, unlike your lameass, garden-variety homeless people (homebums), but they don't know enough about The Scene to qualify as true crusties.

Oogle seems to be used both as an insult and as an ironic term of endearment amongst homeless scenesters, in much the same way as hipsters use the term "hipster".

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-09-03

"Crusties"? Oh I am so old.

I think it says a lot about the times we live in that we have so many kinds of homeless people.
