What a shite ad campaign. Sega's was better.

EvilHomer - 2016-06-22

Culture, humor, intelligence, and confidence. That's what Nintendo brings to the table. Sega gave us what? An unbathed horde of homeless-looking Gen-Xers shouting at children.

Gmork - 2016-06-22

Artful troll. Nintendo is just as shite as sega.

poorwill - 2016-06-22

Sega's catalogue doesn't even compare favourably to second-stringers like Konami, Taito or Irem. Great publisher and platform-provider, mediocre to good developer.

cognitivedissonance - 2016-06-22

But what about Sonic's arms? How do you feel about them?

Cena_mark - 2016-06-22

Gen X is the greatest generation. That were so cool, even their generation's name is edgy.
Sonic's arms beige most of the time.

Baron_Von_Bad_Beaver - 2016-06-22

My parents owned a genesis at the time. I also had a PC.

sega channel was awesome; I don't think nintendo had anything quite like it in the US.

But the PC had the best games in my opinion.

EvilHomer - 2016-06-22

The Greatest Generation was the greatest generation, because that was their name. Gen X was named after a stupid tag-team; an ENTIRE GENERATION, named after Road Dogg and Mr Ass. How lame can you get?!

Cena_mark - 2016-06-22

You're confusing the New Age Outlaws for DX. They were in DX, but DX was a faction not a tag team. It also included X Pac, HHH, HBK, chyna, and later on Hornswoggle.
The "Greatest Generation" spent 4 years fighting WW2, then spent the next 60 years fucking up our country, rubbing their greatness in our faces, and watching Matlock.

EvilHomer - 2016-06-22

Yeah, I know Triple H and Hornswaggle were in the DX tag-team; I singled out Road Dogg and Mr Ass because they were the two most embarrassing members, and thus, the two most emblematic of the generation named after them.

And if DX wasn't a tag-team, then how do you explain this?

Cena_mark - 2016-06-23

They did do larger tag teams, but it's still a faction.
I'll admit this ad campaign is better than Nintendo's US ones. Remember the Play it Loud campaign, where they tried to out edge Sega?

EvilHomer - 2016-06-23

It was a tag-team faction. You're probably thinking of NWO, which was just a faction, but not a tag-team; the reason they weren't also a tag-team is because the members weren't very loyal to one another. Factions like DX, The Brood, The Guerrero Family, the Ministry of Darkness, and of course the Hardy Boyz, those factions had chemistry together, and operated as a single, cohesive unit. Therefor, tag-team.

And what's wrong with Play It Loud? Nintendo wasn't trying to be "edgy". They were trying to relate to kids; they empathized with the anti-authoritarian, punk-rock mindset of the 90s youth. Sega's youth marketing focused on negatives - being disrespectful to peers, parents, and teachers - whereas Nintendo's youth marketing was focused on positives - empowering children to find their own voices, to stand up and make and impact on their community through the power of alt-rock and quality Nintendo products.

Describing Link as a "meddy-evil elf".

Monkey Napoleon - 2016-06-22

RIP Rik Mayall, your push to crossover into American cinema failed spectacularly... but I liked your movie when I was a kid.

betamaxed - 2016-06-22

Just the way he wore that sweater with no undershirt...

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-06-22

I just found out he died a couple years ago.

:(

Xenocide - 2016-06-22

I never heard of him before I saw these and now I'm sad.

chumbucket - 2016-06-23

Fantastic ads for boring games.

Nominal - 2020-03-07

Ah yes, Nintendo's "boring" era of Zelda, Starfox, Street Fighter 2, Tetris, and Mario 1-3.

Accidie - 2016-06-23

These were excellent.
