A friend of mine from college went to high school with Michael Oher. Oher claims the movie is so far from reality as to be laughable.

Also, what's said about the white attitude to adoption here is pretty fucking spot on, having worked for an adoption agency. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blind_Side_(film)#Race_controver sy

As a former foster kid I love this movie. I feel like you completely missed the point if you looked at it as a bunch of white people adopt a black kid as a pet.

My parents loved this movie, but I never got around to seeing it. I know they have it on DVD. Is it worth 2 hours of my life (whether good or bad)?

It's a stink burger, in ways that are hard to describe adequately. My evangelical sister in law laid this one on us one Christmas eve. To add insult to injury, she hates Jean Shepard! I will have my revenge however, I intend this year to send my niece a copy of that Rankin and Bass thing where Santa is raised by cats and the Elder Gods still hold the field. Fuck that department store nonsense...

Fuck have I been exposed to some stinkers that family have insisted we watch together over the holidays.

My father said The Illusionist was one of the best movies he's ever seen with a mindblowing ending. We watch it, and from the instant the "murder" takes place, it's painfully obvious that they faked her death. So obvious, that I swore they would reveal that by the end of the 2nd act and that there would be another twist.

But nope. It revealed the faked death at the very very end and did so in an exact copy of the end to The Usual Suspects like it was the most mindblowing thing ever. On top of all that, it never explained how Ed Norton was doing all these tricks that would be impossible with modern technology, let alone early 20th century. Even The Majestic wasn't that lazy.

This thanksgiving get together, the folks claimed 2001 and The Arrival were "dumb" :(

2001 a Space Odyssey is dumb.
You should introduce your folks to The Prestige. It's the true masterpiece about magicians.

This movie makes Driving Miss Daisy look like Do the Right Thing.
