I remember it was kind of a big deal for me when Hardees got bought out or merged or whatever with Carl's Jr. When I was a kid I'd visit grandparents in Wisconsin and one of the nice things was that Hardees had a pretty OK Gardenburger, pretty OK for a state that thinks that being vegan means you still eat cheese. But then I started seeing commercials for Hardees, now with the Carl's Jr. star I was used to seeing out on the West Coast, and with the Star came the the untimely death of the one thing I could eat on road trips that wasn't salad, if I could find a fast food place with meat-less salad to begin with.

As someone who has been through a corporate takeover this is all kinds of evil.

And the real kicker is that, where I live, there are still Roy Roger's. But they're much more independent that other fast food chains. I went to college with a girl who managed one, and she explained how all the Roy Roger's in my area are almost completely unrelated to each other. It's a weird arrangement.

Hardee's was owned by Imasco from 1981 until being sold to CKE Restaurants - the parent company of Carl's Jr. - in 1997. Hardee's Imasco run saw the company buy Burger Chef and Roy Rogers essentially for the real estate, and have what remained of Rax become a Hardee's franchisee until the Rax franchise essentially fell apart.

Knowing that, Hardee's is lucky it just has the equivalent of a Sharpie penis drawn on its corporate face.

I've never been to a Roy Rogers, but my grandmother referred to it as "They had everything you could sell on the same menu, but none of it made sense to eat at the same time."
