This actually sounds like a pretty good album.

"Midnight Confessions" by the Grass Roots in the preload ... ? Probably the most famous member of the Grass Roots was named Creed Bratton. He went on to play Creed Bratton on "The Office". However, as far as I can tell, he wasn't in the band when they did "Midnight Confessions", but you can see him at 1:48 in this video:

Well THAT is some interesting, previously unknown trivia % stars to Bort!

The Creed Bratton thing is fairly well-known. There was even a cut scene from "The Office" (presumaby a DVD extra) where Creed mentioned his time with the Grass Roots and showed an album cover.

The story of "Vehicle" by Ides of March is more interesting. It's got everything, from nice guys / abuse of men to a gift from benevolent rock deities:

Probably the most authentic thing about this commercial is the absence of people of color.

Blimpy Boy

I hate the baby boomers a little more every day.

Bort - 2017-10-07

Myself, I don't put a whole lot of stock in this generation being this way and that generation being that way. One can point to fads and movements that happen during various eras, but I don't know that it makes the generations inherently different.

But, if we're going to talk generations: yes, the hippies were pretty ridiculous; in a lot of ways they got the world handed to them, and for all their talk of love and peace they turned out to be no better than their parents. But they also had to worry about being drafted to fight and die in a senseless war, so they had REAL problems most of us never had to face.

The Millennials, meanwhile, resemble no other group so much as their archenemies, the Baby Boomers, in their youth. Same smug confidence that they're going to be different and better; same indications that, like every generation before them, their egalitarian impulses are mostly about redistribution in their favor. Yeah we'll see how big they are on free tuition when they're in a tax bracket that would actually pay for other people's college. They aren't a whole lot better than the Baby Boomers when it comes to misogyny; and when it comes to minority issues, of course those take a back seat to whatever free stuff white kids want, same as always.

People try to put us down...
(TALKIN BOUT MY GENERATION!)
Just because we get around
(TALKIN BOUT MY GENERATION!)
Things ain't cool, they're awful cold
(TALKIN BOUT MY GENERATION!)
Hope I die before I get... OH GO FUCK YOURSELF

In some respects, it's deja vu all over again

one thing that I think is different is that, because of online phenomena like 4 chan and Gamergate, the very very worst of millennial culture has had a huge influence on the current establishment through the alt right. For thoise who don't know the story, here's an article and video about how Steve Bannon discovered the wellspring of male adolescent rage, and how he decided to use it.

Maybe it's not so different. Maybe when my Grandfather was my current age, he was frightened and depressed by what the new generation were doing to the world.

For all my gripes about the politics of the young -- which involve sitting out elections except when they make a do-nothing Establishment candidate their messiah for demonizing other Establishment candidates -- they have the potential to be the ones who finally get it right. It's just potential, though, by no means a guarantee.

Remember Brand New Congress? That was the plan to fix Congress by simply electing 460+ candidates with an identical agenda in 2018. So, how's the recruitment drive for candidates going?

https://brandnewcongress.org/candidates

Eleven candidates. ELEVEN. And I bet not one of them makes it into office.

My point, and yes I have one: the young'uns are taking WAY too long to figure out that, if we haven't built utopia, it ain't because the Democrats are the enemy. Figure out who the real enemies are, dummies: Republicans and those progressives who refuse to help out on Election Day.

(This is the part where someone hops in and says "well what about that time Obama did a thing that wasn't ideal?" Which is exactly my point: if you are still obsessed with tearing down the Democrats in the era of Trump, that makes you part of the problem. Try being part of the solution.)
