For anyone who hasn't already read it, this piece of Internet history would make good followup reading:

Forgot the stars.

Also, it's always a pleasant surprise to see Joe Rogan actually talking about something he understands for a change.

Also, everyone knows nut punching is more characteristic of Chinese martial arts (source: about 2/3 of the 80s and 90s Hong Kong action movies I've seen)

Seriously though, this video was really entertaining but so much of this theory is superfluous if you've seen more than a handful of Chinese and Japanese (but especially Chinese, despite the whole "ninja" thing). The training montages, the slapstick nut shots, the ridiculous claims about tournament victories - all of it just seems like nothing more than really hamhanded appropriation of conventions from 70s and 80s martial arts movies that were the obvious inspiration for the 80s and 90s American martial arts movies.

Definitely a channel worth subscribing to, too. I'm loving all of the weird little niche documentary channels that have been popping up lately.

The Uwe Boll one is pretty great. It's a story w all know well, but it's really fun to see it presented like this.

I'd never heard of uwe boll.. That was weird. 'Retarded' seems to be his favourite word. He honestly doesnt seem quite all there in the brain department. Though who knows, maybe its an elaborate PR act for the audience of his films..

I remember that Van Damme picture at 6:38 - it's from an Entertainment Weekly article:
http://ew.com/article/1994/09/23/love-pain-whole-damme-thing/< br />
The only reason I remember the article is for the line "'Look at his back. Look at his shoulders. Look at his toes--even his toes are strong. Magnificent!'" - for context, JCVD admires Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux’s Ugolino and His Sons. The article is essentially "we have to promote Timecop, I guess, but here's Van Damme admiring fine art! WINK".

I met this Dux guy.

My friends were into a local martial arts club where the sensei had drank the Dux Kool-Aid. Everything was hinged on bringing this guy into town and showing him the red carpet.

They hired me on as security. 110-pound scrawny no-skill me, as security at a martial arts gathering for a famous black belt. At least I got to wear one of those wired earpieces.

The event happened without a hitch, I had a Coke/Mean Joe Green moment with Dux in a hallway that neither of us would care to remember the details afterwards.

And that was a thing that happened. Not much of a story, but it wasn't much of a moment in time for that matter.

The claims of the trophy shop mean nothing. Even if they made the trophy, the Kumite organizers needed trophies, and likely got it made there and shipped to the various Kumite locations.

Bloodsport is one of Trump's favourite movies. Sorry for bringing him up but I think this provides some interesting context to that.

Hooker - 2018-03-18

There's this class of people that like to insist on people's attention so that they can impart this awesome and life-changing fact to them: Bloodsport isn't real! Frank Dux is a fraud! They seem to not understand that they're admitting that, were it not for being smartened up at some point, they find no reason to be skeptical of it. It's exactly like the people who immediately let you know that professional wrestling is staged if the topic comes up. Oh, really!?
