No, it is. It's his most mature movie, the one where he tried with the most success to get past his cinephile alienation and treat his characters as real people under real stresses in the real world. It *starts* out with pure film reference, of course--R&B plus Grier *just standing there*, mostly, = blaxploitation! But contrast this with the meaningful repetition of the song at the end of the movie and you get the movement of the film.

regardless, this was the best soundtrack out of any his movies. the only reason i like him is he has some GREAT soundtracks, but this one mkaes me want my grandmothers arms, "its going be alright". xoxo i need me some etta james

I love this song, infinite stars for Pam Grier just by herself, and, take note, this is a fine example of how you make a movie out of an Elmore Leonard novel.
