Now, if they'd really wanted to impress, they should have remade world 1-1 of Super Mario Bros. in 3-D.

I will admit that the past 2-D Mario games have been mostly rehashing the same boring tropes. They're a disappointment and they deserve their criticisms.
However, Super Mario 64, Sunshine, and the Galaxy series are ridiculously fun. They're examples of fantastic and imaginative game design.
I can see why people are one-starring this though, but it seems to be aimed more at disappointment in he series overall than just this game. The best thing to do then is: JUST DON'T BUY IT.

Xenocide - 2010-05-23 Personally, I like the 2-D games better. New SMB Wii is a multiplayer experience unlike any I've had before, and it's damn fun to boot. I fail to see how a game with that much original and inspired design can be considered a "rehash," but I suspect it's mostly a perception problem: people are used to 3-D Marios by now, so they assume 2-D ones are automatically a step back, as is innovation were impossible without that extra dimension.
