http://www.MySpace.com/EricaEther - If you like what you see, or just appreciate the effort, please share with your friends, favorite, or BOTH!!! I'm just an army of one, and your friends won't know about this unless you share it! Thanks... BUT I digress...

I wrote this song in an hour, recorded it over the course of a week, but the drawings for this music video took a little longer than that. This is a "motion comic" from the mind of the narrator, one who tends not to leave her native "Fantasy World", eventually shifting further throughout the song into her ultimate lonely reality of being STAR+CROST, with? from?... why?...

Everything in this music video, lyrics, music, and illustration consisting of nearly one hundred traditional pencil and ink drawings, then filming and editing (just check my "Borderline megalomaniac 3rd person credits" at the end, heh) is all done by me, by myself, ALONE, like the rest of my life! A mishmash of responses to "Lolita", "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari", James O'Barr's "The Crow", "Lola" by The Kinks, "Seventeen" by Winger, "I Saw Her Standing There" by the Beatles, "Little Queenie" by Chuck Berry, and the most epic "Take On Me" seminal avant garde music video optical and aural experience by a-ha, all in one polarizing couple of minutes. You feel that? Put on your headphones, 'cause you're breathing in the ether...

Say, you should post on the associated website's forum. You will have lots of fans there.

Headphones make it sound better-ishhhhh... I'm not a producer, but I have strong ideas.

ERICÆTHER - 2010-09-16

Thanks to anyone who watched and enjoyed it! I grew up getting picked on for doing these things (at least their defense was being ignorant children, nowadays it's making people question their own abilities and their OWN complexes, not anything I've done), so anything negative, whatever! You know there's a difference between criticism and being an internet masked wimp. BUT you're not saying anything I haven't heard before. Comes with the territory of being vulnerable! I appreciate your time, and forgive me for "liking" my own video. I wasn't really sure anyone was even going to see it. I like that one comment "It's eccentric"... well, no one achieved anything by being predictable?... WELL, without later being in a VH1 "Where are they now?" special. Best to everyone!

What is this crap?

godot - 2010-08-30

I was fine with it (the art is pretty good) till the singer embraced the fallacy that singing harder = emotional intensity/resonance, when in fact the opposite is true for my ears. Also, a bit crowded production wise - its easier to achieve drama when there's some negative space. "Take on Me" achieved a lot with two synth lines, some nice outboard reverbs, and absurd falsetto.

Erica, generally rating your own submission is frowned upon here and on POEtv. Nobody bothered telling me for months after I became active.

JimL2 - 2010-08-30

godot did you hear the music

did you hear any of it (the music)

godot - 2010-08-30

JimL2, no, Erica's new, I was just trying to be a little constructive. Anyway, I'm fairly forgiving of 80s pastiche till the vocals became physically painful entering the first chorus. I'm a bit afraid of re-cueing it. Okay...

Its, um, eccentric.

Ignoring the mic clipping and atonal caterwauling, I certainly got my money's worth. 24 tracks, and every one stood in formation till the bitter end.

I'm okay with it all being about her alter-ego. That Germanotta woman is explicit about performing a 3rd person character, and that's worked out for her okay (an unmentioned influence here, too).

ERICÆTHER - 2010-09-16

Eh, people I know like it. I'm not dry humping, it's creative, not exploiting sexuality, and since I'm the narrator, it's my song, I'm drawing my reactions as opposed to being in every scene for real. I suppose Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2U" is her self indulgent show of narcissism as well? Oh, the anonymity of the internet! And girls that sing wimpy do so because they can't really sing, in MY opinion. Not a nig Janis fan. but she had passion. I did everything myself. I suppose I'll go look at what you've done now. REAL people like it that have REAL identities. I'm not offended. Jealousy is typical in my world with people that feel inferior. :)

JimL2 - 2010-08-30

ha ha ha who submitted this

I don't think this is real thing, it's too awful to live

Erica do you ever draw anything but yourself?

Have you ever noticed that you're so out of tune, you clash with yourself even when you're run through a chorus filter?

Did you write this on a Roland MT-32?

This video is incredible, too incredible to live. RIP Erica Aether.

ERICÆTHER - 2010-09-16

I submitted this. And to reiterate:

Eh, people I know like it. I'm not dry humping, it's creative, not exploiting sexuality, and since I'm the narrator, it's my song, I'm drawing my reactions as opposed to being in every scene for real. I suppose Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2U" is her self indulgent show of narcissism as well? Oh, the anonymity of the internet! Big Name Celebrity - 2010-08-30

The video is perfectly nice. It's well-drawn and storyboarded, if a bit repetitive, so pat yourself on the back for that.

The music sounds like Cherrie Blue from Thrill Kill Kult decided to embark on a solo project. That's not a compliment.

Definitely keep making videos. You're probably employable as an artistic director.

For fuck's sake- shut up, though.

ERICÆTHER - 2010-09-16

Thanks!? I love people with opinions that have nothing to offer. But I appreciate taking some minutes of your life. :)

Dr Dim - 2010-08-30

3 stars for whatever's going on at 1:49.

If you want some tips on making it in the music industry, poe-news.com forum poster Feyd is probably the man to talk to.

JimL2 - 2010-08-30

actually that's a really good point

ERICÆTHER - 2010-09-16

Thank you!

ERICÆTHER - 2010-09-16

Again, thanks, but how do I get in touch with anyone? Or in the Poe News as the above poster listed? Eh, it got a reaction and I guess thats the point. :)

a flaming monkey - 2010-08-31

She can draw herself pretty well. I'll give her that. Pity there's a lot of it.

a flaming monkey - 2010-09-01

I feel bad for saying that now. I hope she achieves mild success. It's not easy being an artist or whatever. LOLZ

Stopheles - 2010-09-03

It absolutely kills me to see a-fucking-ha referred to in the same sentence as "avant garde." The director of the "Take On Me" video should get all songwriting and performance royalties from the band, or at least the song that people only know because of the video.

Billie_Joe_Buttfuck - 2010-09-03

I'm sure this somehow avant-guard and I'm not meant to enjoy it until 20 years later.

ERICÆTHER - 2010-09-16

Thanks, but if you dug it, why the low stars? Eh, whatever.

Severian - 2010-09-17

Ugh

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2010-11-14
