When they learn corporations have this crazy idea of making a profit?

Question for TSR: If I pay no taxes and I take big subsidies from the government to survive, am I a corporation or a welfare recipient? Discuss.

When will corporate boot-lickers realize that "making a profit" doesn't have to mean "squeeze every possible dollar so the CEO can afford a dozen stretch limos instead of four."

It'd also help if we stopped giving tax breaks for moving jobs overseas, gave tax incentives to building/hiring local labor, etc. but for a starter, we need to lose the capital gains tax breaks; it's obviously not "helping" any kind of investment in our domestic economy.

I've experienced pretty much every professional level and I never see a difference. Every worker is out to extract maximum value. You and I may want to think otherwise, but its just fact.

There is no difference whatsoever. Except one of those doesn't constantly have to worry about food, clothing, heating bills, and getting to work in a vehicle that works with the ability to afford fuel or taking public transportation that is often unreliable and inefficient.

You mention the marketing, engineering and I.T. A lot of jobs in those fields need job experience in the field and/or a college degree. Yes, there are jobs out there to be had, but how many people in the area have the expertise to get them?

Totally agree, it sucks for Benton Harbor'ites, I mean the median income is a little over ,000/yr for chrissakes. That's for people that are WORKING.

But, for a lot of other SW Michigan cities that aren't suffering as terribly, with residents that can afford degrees and have prior experience, it's a blessing.

It's not about a corporation coming in and raping a community, it's about a corporation fostering a town, creating jobs and opportunity all just to abandon it. I'm sure there is TONS of opportunity for upper management, marketing, IT, industrial design and PR in Detroit working for a big 5 automotive company too, so why is the motor city in such a bad way I wonder.

A nation's wealth comes from labor, and the new paradigm in corporations is to outsource the wealth and reap the monetary benefits for an elite educated few.

what's done is done. Yes, the elite are benefiting ultimately, and Whirlpool is no different. Of course it's greedy and evil. But I know people that are happier as a result of Whirlpool. They aren't looking at the "big picture", they just need to feed their goddamn kiddos and pay for gas. Good for them, they don't have to give a shit. Irresponsible mindset? Tell that to their recently fed baby. The baby seriously doesn't care, it just wants some damn peanut butter and bananas. it's F'ing starving for chrissakes.

All I'm saying is that without Whirlpool, things would be even shittier for a LOT of people in the area. I don't discount what Whirlpool is doing to Benton Harbor, of course not. There's good and bad in everything.

Let the elites of the world and CEO's of companies do their evil shit. Ultimately they will create their own worst fear for themselves. Really, what goes around comes around. I don't think the universe will let us down in the long run.

Whirlpool still has more manufacturing jobs in the US than the other major appliance manufacturers, for what it's worth. They still build a lot of refrigerators in Amana, Iowa. The competition is Samsung and LG from Korea and Bosch and Miele from Europe. GE builds mostly in Canada and Mexico. All the other major brands are pretty much subsidiaries of Whirlpool and come out of the same plants. I'm not going to say they're the greatest company in the world but they're pretty much all that's left as far as American appliances go.

You don't get it. Some people are happy because whirlpool employs them. That's great. How many thousands more would be happy and feeding their babies if whirlpool used its US government money and tax exemption from the US to make its factories in the US.

As for the fallacy that without whirlpool, life would be shittier: That's the point. As they continue to outsource, labor finds itself without opportunities. Your "it could be worse" scenario is what's happening to american industry and labor today

I was born & raised in a town with hundreds of industry-contaminated lots, which every few years ends up on a list of 10 worst cities to live/raise kids/own a business/whatever. But Benton Harbor... goddamn.
