Considering he already had a gay porn action figure made after him, I think he's pretty used to having his image misappropriated.

Oscar Wildcat - 2012-03-27

What, he doesn't have a licensing agreement? Forget about God, what this guy needs is a better IP representation.

BHWW - 2012-03-27

I have nothing against the guy, but he does happen to be a favorite amongst that irritating species known as the Internet Athiest (for example, the sort of people who post in r/atheism) - i.e. angry nerds who consider themselves to be avatars of Reason and Science and express it through obnoxious meme-pics and weepy, soppy paens to science "o tis true, we are the stuff of starrrrs, sob sob" that often betray only the most shallow, dilletantish interest in science.

But I tend to be irritated by Internet (Fill in the Blank) anyway...

StanleyPain - 2012-03-27

You could say that about pretty much any public figure who advocates science or reason or atheism in any sort of way, though. My opinion on it is that, as annoying as those sorts of "I NEED A PUBLIC FIGURE TO VALIDATE MY BELIEFS" people are, overall, I would rather people be doing it with people like Tyson.

Riskbreaker - 2012-03-27

The question is, what the hell are you doing in reddit? Also, this guy is not an atheist as far as i know.

StanleyPain - 2012-03-27

I like Tyson, but he's one of those "I'm an atheist that doesn't want to admit it out of fear of offending religious people" types so he dances around the issue. Personally, I could care less since he's a great astronomy teacher and obviously passionate about the subject, but I really don't like his "you guys are being meany weenie poopy pants" thing he pulls with staunch atheist scientific figures.

I like browsing reddit because I always wondered what 4chan would be like without any redeeming qualities, but anyone who enjoys the place needs the alien mascot branded on their forehead to warn others.

Cena_mark - 2012-03-27

"God is an ever-receding pocket of scientific ignorance that’s getting smaller and smaller and smaller as time goes on." That's pretty awesome quote by him, that doesn't dance around the issue.

Konversekid - 2012-03-28

He said that to express how ridiculous a position it is to argue that all that is unexplainable the work of God. He didn't say it as an actually statement or representation of his own belief, it really was just a criticism of certain types of theists.

misterbuns - 2012-03-28

BHWHWH your mystic take on science is gross

MurgatroidMendelbaum - 2012-03-27

I normally consider the guy a mediocre-media-scientist and an irritating "edgy" Atheist, but this was pretty good stuff. Minus one star because the guy conducting the interview was such an irritating dweeb.

Agent #1 - 2012-03-27

How can anyone consider him to be an "edgy atheist"? I mean, I can't imagine anyone sending death threats to Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Well played fatatty. these are for you.

MrBuddy - 2012-03-28

Neil deGrasse, the nicest guy who ever killed the planet Pluto.

Maru - 2013-02-03

Enough of this guy.
