If you want to attack abortion through all angles, you could always make sure people have easy access to birth control and know how to use it. I mean, if you were sincere.

samstein - 2012-11-05

I am guessing the context of this video is the USA where people have easy access to birth control.

Bort - 2012-11-05

There are still issues of cost, stigma, and education that can get in the way.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-11-05

Easy access to birth control...

...unless you work for an employer that wants to opt out for "religious reasons" on your health insurance. Or if the GOP ever manages to defund Planned Parenthood.

samstein - 2012-11-05

I don't understand. I can get a variety of birth controls for cheap at the pharmacy, prescription and over the counter. I have had insurance in the past that didn't assist with payment, but my access has never been limited. What am I missing?

Blue - 2012-11-05

Some people are fucking dumb. Condoms cost money and sometimes people run out of money.

Not everybody is responsible or careful. A lot of that is intentional deception on the part of churches, public schools, and those fake abortion clinics.

asian hick - 2012-11-05

The part you don't understand is that you're a fucking idiot.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-11-06

One thing you're missing is that birth control pills have applications other than contraception. I didn't realize that myself until I read about Sandra Flukje's testimony. Here it is in WIKIPEDIA:

She then shared the stories of friends affected by such policies, citing a friend with polycystic ovary syndrome. Fluke said this friend needed contraceptive hormones costing over 0 per month to treat this disease, and that while PcOS was "covered by Georgetown insurance", the insurance company repeatedly denied contraceptives because they suspected the purpose of the medication was contraception.

Cost: suppose, for a minute, you're a low-income person by whatever means. You get paid, all your money goes to bills and groceries, and you're out of money at least two weeks out of the month. Birth control may be relatively inexpensive, but when you're out of money, even a couple bucks is more than you can spend.

Stigma and education: this speaks mostly to fundamentalist communities, of which there are plenty. Unplanned pregnancies strike the most right-wing "Godly" places pretty heavily, because teenagers are taught abstinence as the only birth control technique. Even if you somehow pick up a more comprehensive understanding of the options, going to the pharmacy to buy condoms is a risk because word could get back to your folks.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-11-06

If she was arguing against a real and not a hypothetical person, perhaps that person would explain to her that "wrong for me" is not the same thing as "wrong". This is like the vegan who hassles everybody who eats meat. What's worse is she acts like she's the first person to ever think this through. Nobody is pretty enough to get away with this amount of arrogance.

spikestoyiu - 2012-11-06

I make pretty good money and my girl makes decent-enough money, but the only birth control her body can tolerate (not covered by her health insurance) is a month... and that's with a coupon. It's infinitely cheaper than a stupid kid, but I don't consider it "cheap".

Toenails - 2012-11-05

Nuance, you get the fuck out of here!!!!

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-11-05

She's really pretty. I would love to give her an unplanned pregnancy.

Blue - 2012-11-05

gross.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2012-11-05

Yeah, all over her face! :)

(apologies)

Ocyrus - 2012-11-06

Or find out if she really opposes abortion in the instance of rape.
Let's put it to a test?

Joey The Cobra - 2012-11-06

Yeah! You're a disgusting creep Ocyrus.

Bebido - 2012-11-06

What is Creeper? What is Rape Culture?

cognitivedissonance - 2012-11-06

Nevermind that everybody is "pro-life". Some of us are also "anti-poverty/disregard".

Robin Kestrel - 2012-11-06

Armed with this one simple trick, I can't wait to demolish the next pro-choicer that uses that old "I'm personally against murdering babies, but I think that murdering babies should be kept legal" argument on me!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-06

Here's a quick thought. Fuck you.
