Although lets face it, the only reason anyone went to see this movie was because they knew it had to end this way.

Wasn't really anything else they could do, right? I mean, without the war, the terminator is never sent back, thus the war must happen, thus the terminator is sent back...blah blah time paradox.

That's kind of what I expected, for them to go with the possibility that you could change the future from Terminator 2 and have the war either delayed by a few years or even prevented (the typical happy ending). Or worse (in my opinion), just having a robot uprising without the nukes because they "changed enough things" or some other garbage.

Check out the writing credits for the two guys who wrote this and Salvation. Total utter shit.

i came out of this thread appreciating Terminator 3 AND Terminator Salvation more than I ever thought possible

I dunno, I prefer movies where characters' actions actually have an effect of things. Undoing it all because MAGIC PREDESTINATION in a plot about robot puns was kind of weak.

Fabio, my man, you should, someday, commit yourself to watching all four movies and both seasons of the TV series back to back, in one long, horrible binge. Here's what emerges:

Basically, there is no continuity, because there are multiple timelines. There are three dates given for Judgement Day, at least two John Connors, and one timeline in which Skynet is purely the consequence of the folly of human technophilia and another where cyborgs actually sent cyborgs back in time to be CEOs of tech companies*. The TV series pretty much acts like Rise of the Machines never happened and Salvation gives knowing winks to both the series and the previous movies without ever committing to any one paradigm. It's as if the ultimate destruction is one where machines manage to destroy linear time itself, creating multiverse after multiverse where humans are totally fucked and time has become a reverse-fractal imploding into itself. It would be clever if it were at all intentional.

*No, I'm not making that up, sadly.

The best solution would have been to just not make another more time travel sequels and just have the 2nd movie take place in the future.

Imagine how awesome it would have been if we got an Alien/Aliens thing going where the sequel takes the focused thriller original then successfully turns it into a big action movie while retaining elements that made the original work? Movie magic.

Instead we got an annoying teen kid and by the numbers tropes.
