So I'm going to assume from the title there was actually at least two seasons of this crap, because this looks like one of those really lame WB network sitcoms that managed to last for a couple of seasons only because the ratings weren't as quite as low as those of all of the other terrible sitcoms, all of the one-season-and-out bottom-feeders, six-episode wonders and blink-and-you-missed-'em disasters that all put the 'deservedly' in 'deservedly obscure', (though that's pretty much almost the whole 90s WB/UPN lineup)

Oh and a quick search shows 'Smart Guy' lasted three seasons.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-03-25

Yeah, this was the WB's attempt to cash in on its "urban" efforts, which really went nowhere. I think they were using the old "Webster" show as their template. The guy who came up with this dreck also wrote for some god-awful Disney sitcoms and "Sliver Spoons," so there you go.

Cena_mark - 2013-03-25

I think the show was just created to give the brother of the Sister Sister girls a job.

Old_Zircon - 2013-03-25

Ironically, Silver Spoons is (as far as I know) the only TV show that's depicted meeting people online as a GOOD thing.

The first act is worth seeing just for the implications it makes about the molester. See, he likes video games, which makes him sketchy to begin with, because (we're explicitly told) the only other people who like video games are children.

Also he's an internet pirate, which firmly establishes him as pure evil.

themilkshark - 2013-03-25

Yeah in the 90's there was still a contingent of parents who called video games "toys" and had mentally blocked their own pre-teen Pacman addiction.

EvilHomer - 2013-03-25

He's paying the guy twenty dollars for a pirated PC game?!?!

I'm guessing this was filmed in the pre-Napster dark ages, back when most of us still thought you only got things by paying for them, but if this kid was really as smart and computer savv as the premise would have us believe, there's no way he'd fall for a bootlegging scam like that. Some old HotLine servers tried to make you pay for full access or dedicated server spots or whatever so could download the latest version of macromedia flash or see pictures of naked ladies you haven't already seen.

I paid for Limewire Pro, and it was fucking awesome for a few years until it became a virus/spam server for the RIAA. The 90's were a golden age.

This week, on a very special episode of Smart Guy...
