This speedrun is an analogy of reality itself. Barney represents the common person as they go through life, seeing things that they want to interact with as they walk down the long and stretching path of mortality. Unfortunately, he is pushed forwards by the demands of modern day life (represented by the splits) to get to the end as fast as possible, skipping all the joys that life gives us.
In the end, Barney has successfully lived a life as defined by the modern day society, but the cost is dire; he has 'found zero', in his words exactly. He used his limited time on Earth to make a life that society deems as acceptable, but all the treasures of life went undiscovered as a direct cost to his race to the end. In some ways, all of us have found zero.
