THE GALAXY IS AT PEACE

I'm amazed Kojima was able to make something this coherent without it devolving into either conspiracy craziness or some woman's tits.

I was looking forward to making fun of a cutscene that's 8 fucking minutes long... but it looks like the last 3 minutes are just Very Important (tm) quotes and some credits. Hideo Kojima won't even let me get my hate on properly. The man is a monster.

Player owned nuke?
Is that some kind of multi-player realm raiding?
|
Dr. Lobotomy - 2015-12-02 There's a whole side thing in MGSV involving building extra bases to have more room for soldiers and what-not in your Private Force.
With the twist that other players can come in and raid your Foward Operating Bases and Kidnap some of your soldiers, steal some of your resources etc.
You can construct costly nukes to "deter" this from happening. But since Kojima has no fucking idea what the definition of "Deterrence" actually is, it just means that building a Nuke paints a gigantic bull's eye on you and you will literally be raided nonstop until a player gets through to your Nuke and steals it.

Excessive preachyness in a video game? Oh that's right, it's another MGS. Nothing to see here folks, move along.

This game was a really worthwhile purchase.
Fantastic stealth mechanics and AI.
Great open world.
*Different* open word gameplay than your cookie cutter GTA/assassins creed/farcry/etc type game, you werent just a manic running around, you had a mission to do + its best to complete it as quickly and quietly as possible.
Really good long fun campaign.
Insane attention to detail.
Sense of humor.
Lots of base and team building / research mechanics.
Well fleshed out base invasion async multiplayer mechanic.
Bonus normal multiplayer mode.
Terrible plot / characters / cutscenes / bosses, but terrible in a sorta interesting way that didnt really take away from the game proper.

infinite zest - 2015-12-02 I dunno, I spent at least 2 days just manically running around collecting fauna for my petting zoo.. I don't even remember any boss battles though, except for Man on Fire and Snuffleupagus. I guess the Skulls came around sometimes but they didn't feel like bosses to me.

7:56 -- So, to get this all straight, MGSV has a secret ending that requires making sure that every single nuclear weapon on a given server has been disarmed -- a massive ask for player synchronicity that will most likely never even be achieved on PCs -- and IMMEDIATELY after achieving the ending the game tells you that nuclear weapons are still a thing being developed.
I don't know if this is the worst useless thing or the best useless thing.
|
TheOtherCapnS - 2015-12-02 It's not across server. It's across platform! There were less than 400 of them across all the consoles, and about 10,000 left on PC (mostly because of cheating; it takes a huge amount of resources to get nukes in the game, and there are disadvantages to having them). But that's 10,000 down from 30,000. You see, other players can invade your base and disarm your nukes, whether you're online or not. So, it actually is possible for it to happen, even on PCs, by design. I haven't played this game in a month or more, but I put over 200 hours on it when I was playing heavily. Fantastic game.

SolRo - 2015-12-02 it got some young people and apathetic older hipsters talking about nuclear disarmament. Personally I find that good.
