The only reason I voted for this was due to previously owning a dog that had a medical condition that made him so sensitive that something in bread could make him severely ill. I believe it was certain sugars, but not sure.

That's a good point. Apparently it was Pizza and not just bread too. There were a few times when my dog growing up would sneak off with a whole Dominoes Large while we weren't looking and eat the whole thing. We called the vet and he shrugged it off, like "then he'll probably want a beer with that, call me in the morning if he seems sick" but dairy (and wheat) isn't necessarily the healthiest thing. Then again that same dog ate an entire chocolate birthday cake and was fine, once again the vet said "he might want some ice cream."

I wish I had the full context of this. Like I said below I'd never just go up to someone else's animal and give them anything without the owner's permission, so without offering the owner does have the right to be angry, if that's how it went down. But somehow I don't think that's how it went down.

Train your dog not to eat things unless you give them permission. It's easier than you'd think.

Granted, but polo shirt seems to have attacked gutterpunk after he offered his dog something to eat. Bet he won't do that again. Now, that's a good boy!

I guess I'd need to see how the bread was distributed; for some reason most dog owners around where I live are super protective and give me mean looks if I even sort of just smile at their dog, so even if I had an extra dog treat for whatever reason I'd leave it alone unless I'd made a connection.

My best guess is that gutterpunk was in line behind polo, so maybe he was petting the dog or whatever and then gave him or her a piece of his bread or something. That makes more sense than just randomly shoving a food object in a dog's face, but who knows.

Anyway, let this be a lesson to all you asshole dog owners who are way too protective of your dogs. I understand that you love them like you would a child, but ease up. Somebody just likes your dog and wants to say hi. Your behavior will only encourage your dog to be an asshole as well.

That sort of training is a great way to have a completely unmanagable dog when you need to leave it in the hands of someone else for any length of time.

My brother trained his Chesapeake(sic) Bay Retriever like that, then whenever he'd need to have one of us watch him for any length of time while he was busy working or whatever, he'd be completely out of control, would howl for hours, etc.

Unless you plan on never ever needing someone else to watch your dog, and plan on your dog not outliving you, please don't train your dog like that.

@15th yeah, not all the time; I hate to stereotype but it's usually the tiny chihuahua owners or the really big dog owners who are kind of unspoken pricks. And I can't completely blame them; I live in a pretty dangerous part of the city that's slowly becoming the new gentrified area, so it's full of all types from crusties to yuppies, but it's so much the opposite of what I remember as a kid, walking around the neighborhood and everybody petting everybody's dog.

Back when I lived in Milwaukee my ex ran into my work bleeding pretty bad from a tiny little dog that bit her on the hand when she bent down to pet it, and needed some first aid supplies. The owner's reaction apparently wasn't "I'm so sorry" or anything like that, he just proceeded to kick his dog a whole bunch. It's not exactly rocket science figuring out why that dog was violent towards strangers.

That looks like more of a bulldog and less of a pittbull. got the word bull in both their names, but they are very different breeds. Bulldogs can be the sweetest things.

Oh look, a racial profiler can't even identify his races correctly, and as a result looks incredibly foolish. How atypical.

The sweetest dog I've known was a pitbull, but they have really bad impulse control. If that leads to them being vicious rather than overly friendly it's mostly a reflection of the owner.


Bulldogs are just charmingly moronic, some of the dumbest dogs I've ever seen. A friend of min had to rescue a bulldog from drowning at a party because it fell into a pol and was too dumb to know it was underwarter, so it was just standing there on the bottom looking confused (even though it was a good swimmer).


I was throwing a little basketball for a different bulldog at a different party a few years back and every time sh would stop a little too late and end up standing right over the ball instead of in front of it, get confused because it disappeared, and then spin in circles for close to a minute before she eventually figured it out and then spent another minute running victory laps around the yard. A few of us did that for almost an hour (it was kind of a boring party).

It's sad that someone on this site is still ignorant enough to buy into anti-pitbull hysteria.

You can't even discern the difference between a bulldog and a pit bull - nevermind that almost every other type of dog is capable of violent behavior.

Honestly, it makes me ashamed that you even visit this site with such ridiculously unscientific and unsupportable opinions.

Not to mention quite a lot of pitbull "statistics" are based on the fact that ignorant people love to get a "scary" dog (usually pitbull) and chain them up in the front yard, creating an antisocial dog for anyone but owners and people allowed in the household.

This happens with every breed of dog. I've seen chihuahuas do damage that required many stitches. It's called being a better owner - look into it. Dogs need to socialize in order to be well-adjusted to life around lots of people. All dogs.
