That's pretty spot on, especially about the effete straight guys. Although the stereotypical "flaming gay" type certainly exist. It seems more acceptable to be openly out and effeminate if you're a celebrity though.

Yeah, it really is very strange for a westerner with our ideas of gay meaning feminine. I think it's great. the gay bars there feel just like sports bars except you can fuck everyone.

it also does weird things to Japanese drag culture. Queens there are unpolished, clownlike, almost making a joke of drag culture: sorta like frat guys dressing up as girls during rush week.

this makes sense i guess because straight guys in jpop bands girls cream over all look like fucking grand domme drag queens.
