Saw this in the theatre. It's as good as a movie about a rapey man who has a CGI dong before turning invisible can be.

I stand somewhat corrected; I just saw Elle, Verhoeven's newest, and it's one of the best movies I've seen in I-dunno-how-long. Anyway it's an 'American' one too. I'd buy that for a dollar.

I only read these comments to see if I should see Elle or not. Now if you'll excuse me, to the Art House!

Wasn't this movie about racism on some level? Like, our antagonist was pissed-off because the chick he was stalking was dating a black dude?

Of course, invisible eyeballs would be unable to see anything other than a bright white blur.

But I guess 90 minutes of lab equipment falling over and cursing that seems to come from nowhere would be a crummy movie.

I honestly liked this film, personally. I think it basically was a "hey let's remake The Invisible Man" idea, but given a good amount of that Verhoeven flavor. I know that he famously thought the movie was crap and that it didn't bear any of his hallmarks, but I dunno..I kinda disagree. I'm not saying it's a masterpiece or anything, but I felt that, for the time, it was the kind of Invisible Man re-visitation that worked because it abandoned the pretense of being an intellectual thriller and was just a visceral, nasty movie about a man going insane after becoming invisible, but made fairly well.
