Still haven't watched it, probably never going to considering the tone shift between the trailers for the first and second seasons.

They went from "This ain't your Daddy's Star Trek!" to "oh shit these nerds like the Orville more, REVERSE COURSE!".

Also, the JJ Star Treks are garbage.

Beyond was really good, but I suppose technically it wasn’t JJ Trek

I've been a Trek fan my whole life, and I can say without a doubt that Discovery is wonderful. Yes, it's a tone shift, but it isn't just nostalgia crap like the JJ Abrams movies. The new JJ Treks are absolute horseshit garbage.

To anyone undecided about Discovery (as Born appears to be)-- watch the first 3 episodes before you make up your mind. It really is fantastic. Yeah, it doesn't "feel" like TNG. But then, TNG didn't "feel" like TOS. And let's forget that ENT even existed.

IMHO, here are the best treks in order: DS9, TNG, DISC, TOS. (Honorable mention: VOY).

Discovery is fine. The first season works much better marathoned than it does watching it week-to-week, but the tone shift for season 2 was pretty much set up at the end of season 1, with the show no longer taking place in a war scenario, the ship no longer being run by an evil imposter, and everyone in a better place emotionally (except the one engineer whose husband died, I guess.) Season 2 seems to have a more interesting premise overall, should be a lot of fun.

Honestly the funniest thing about the season two trailer is all the nerds trying to credit The Orville for the show's tonal shift, like The Orville is the first space show in history to have jokes in it. Like Star Trek itself didn't wasn't doing comedy episodes 50 years ago. I half-expect people to look at the trailer for Disenchanted and go "Whoa, Matt Greoning is really ripping off Family Guy by putting jokes in a cartoon. Everyone knows Seth Mcfarlane invented that."

Yes, exactly. Plus, it's just a trailer. You can't really judge a whole season of episodes by a trailer that showcases a few jokes. It doesn't look like a screwball comedy to me at all. Just trying to be a little more accessible to non-trekies.

And you're right-- basically every Ferengi episode of DS9 was a comedy. And they had genuinely funny jokes throughout the entire run.

Discovery is flaming dogshit.

FUCKING EXPLORE SPACE. NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE FIGHTING PART EXCEPT IDIOTS

"It's okay guys, we realized we have to copy this thing that was copying star trek to be better! Watch us now, please?"
