‘I’m also the blackest white person ever, so I can’t be racist’

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-12

Trump only ever accuses people of color of being racist. (Al Sharpton, Ilhan Omar, a reporter who asked him a question about white nationalism.) I don't recall him ever applying racism to a white person.

The whole concept of referring to yourself in these terms (or anyone else) is just bizarre, but you get the weird feeling he means it literally.

Anaxagoras - 2019-08-12

Well... yeah. He does mean it literally.... because he has no idea what those words mean. I'm not being snarky; I'm convinced he really is too stupid to really understand what "racist" means, along with many other concepts. In his stupid mind, he converts all those negative words: "racist", "stupid", "loser", etc. to the exact same thing: "bad person". And Trump is the last bad person he knows, therefore he's the least racist.

cognitivedissonance - 2019-08-12

He's too stupid to understand words. He's like a parakeet who learns to talk. He doesn't comprehend them, just squawks them.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-12

Well, if we've learned anything, we've learned that a lot of people don't understand what racism is. I've only gotten a clue in recent years.

I can tell you the moment that I started to get a clue, and it was an online discussion of feminism. I don't have time for the long version of the story, but I resented the way some feminists dismissed me for being male. But one time, I just realized, that's what it feels like.

And it's nothing, compared what other people go through. It was time for me to suck it up. And that was the beginning of me getting a clue.

If people judge me for being white, or being male, they're not necessarily right, and I don't necessarily have to agree with their judgement of me. But I'm not really a victim,. not at all. If you're white someone thinks you're racist, maybe they're wrong. If you feel you're the one being treated unjustly, well, you got a ways to go.

SUCK. IT. UP. That feeling of being misjudged, it's the key to other people's experience. Embrace it, and welcome to the human race.

I'm of above average intelligence, though I didn't turn out to be as smart as I originally thought I was, and I've always been liberal, and fairly open minded, yet, still I didn't get my big epiphany until I was in my late fifties. There's got to be a lot of people out there who haven't put it together yet.

Obviously.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-12

tl/dr White people need empathy to understand racism. Trump does not qualify.

Gmork - 2019-08-13

Uh, feeling misjudged and actually BEING SHIT ON PUBLICLY for your skin color are hopefully not synonymous in your vocabulary. It's never okay to exhibit racial prejudice in any direction.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-13

ACTUALLY BEING SHIT ON PUBLICALLY FOR YOU SKIN COLOR is not something that really happens very often. I don't even know how that would happen outside of some very vile and specific fetish porn.

"Feeling misjudged" is my vocabulary for feeling misjudged.

I get the feeling that your vocabulary for feeling misjudged is "ACTUALLY BEING SHIT ON IN PUBLIC", which is a pretty good example of how the internet has ruined metaphors. Your metaphor distorts the reality of the situation.

You are technically correct that it's wrong to exhibit racial prejudice in any direction. Everyone knows that. Racists know that, and they use it to portray themselves as the victims. Its the first thing that everyone learns about racism. Some of us need to move ahead to the second thing.

Gmork - 2019-08-15

Excuse me, I thought you were capable of recognizing an obvious expression.

Racism is bad in all directions and you're a shit human being if you think otherwise or play justifications to allow for any of it in any direction for any reason.

There, find any problems with that?

Gmork - 2019-08-15

Racists actually DON'T all unanimously know that. I'm surprised you've never run into any real life examples.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-18

Well I don't disagree, but its pretty simplistic.

Most racist or sexist offenses that I have encountered as a White male I would classify as "microaggressions", and people who are not white or male encounter microaggressions over and over all the time. Get over yourself.

https://youtu.be/6TxVQFlp6EI

And if your words and and actions are perceived as racist or sexist, maybe every once in a while, since the point is communication, you could value someone else's perception over your good intentions and hurt feelings.

I've gotten into some arguements with women over feminism. Sometimes, the woman I'm arguing with thinks I'm best sexist, and my intentions were never overtly sexist, but on the other hand, sometimes I've turned out to be wrong. About 50 per cent of the time. Make that 51 per cent of the time.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-18

I think that deserves a rewrite.

I've gotten into some arguements with women over feminism. Sometimes, the woman I'm arguing with thinks I'm being sexist, but my intentions were never overtly sexist.

On the other hand, sometimes, inspite of my innocent intentions, I've turned out to be wrong. About 50 per cent of the time. Make that 51 per cent of the time.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-18

>>>Racists actually DON'T all unanimously know that. I'm surprised you've never run into any real life example.

I can't think of any, but "blacks are racist against white people" is really making the rounds lately, and it's used mostly by racists, mostly to deflect. It's what Trump is doing when he insists that he's not racist, unlike Al Sharpton, certain Democratic congresswomen, or a reporter asking him a question about white nationalism. In Trumpthink, the blacks are the racists. That's fucking crazy.

Raggamuffin - 2019-08-13

my guess was Tom Hanks

Pillager - 2019-08-13

Betty White.

Two Jar Slave - 2019-08-13

Liam Neeson.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-13

This is off topic, but it recently occurred to me that the reason why Kanye West loves Trump has to do with the time Obama called him a jackass... in which case, I'd say Obama nailed that one.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2019-08-13

Mister Rogers, or Dr. John.

I'm not the first to say this, but I think that Kanye and Trump get along because they have huge egos and can't be satisfied by any amount of fame or money. They fear failure and see the world as a dangerous place full of "haters" that they must constantly defeat using any available means, or else.

Anaxagoras - 2019-08-13

That's a pretty insightful observation, Miss Henson.

So if Donald had been good at.... anything.... we might have been spared his idiocratic Presidency? Yet another crime to lay before the feet of God.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-13

Remember that a lot of Trump's motivation for seeking the presidency is said to be remarks Obama made about Trump at the White House correspondent's dinner. I wouldn't rule this out.

But Kanye sure is a jackass! Remember when he tweeted that the thirteenth amendment should be repealed? How the fuck does ANYONE wind up saying that?

Ugh - 2019-08-13

i vote for nardwuar

Marlon Brawndo - 2019-08-13

I have to give it to Kanye that I didn't think it was possible for him to top his awkwardness after he declared George W Bush didn't care about black people during Katrina.

But the White House meeting with Trump is the MOST bizarre thing I've seen during this presidency and that is saying something.

Although, comparing himself to Jesus managed to be even more narcissistic than anything Trump ever did, which is noteworthy. I'm still shocked that his fans just let it slide when he was comparing himself to the son of God. They are both narcissists but I think Kanye is straight up mentally ill whereas Trump just completely feeds off of the attention of people who hate him so he can be combative. His haters never seem to understand that their blanket hatred of him makes him think he's more right about everything.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-13

Do they really get along? I mean, would they go fishing together? I think they're two public people who publicly support each other. They're narcissists whose narcisism mutually benefits from the alliance. When Kanye actually came to the White House, Trump seemed to be awkwardly waiting for his chance to be the center of attention again.

And no one will ever convince me that Kanye West ever forgave the first President of Color for calling him a jackass. I think a good rule of thumb in these matters is "How would Trump react?"

SolRo - 2019-08-14

I don’t think trump cares about “haters”, I think he just genuinely believes he’s the bestest smartest boy there is because that’s what he’s been told his whole life (even if it was often a lie, often as a joke).

To trump anyone that hates him or doubts him or insults him is like a flat-earther to us. He sees them as crazy people denying the scientific fact of how great trump is.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-14

I can only speak for myself, but I don't hate Trump. I hate that he's. President. He's not the worst guy ever. He's the worst President. You put my late crazy racist Uncle Jimmy in the White House, he would be a bad president. But if Uncle Jimmy came back from wherever he's been all this time, I'd be glad to see him. He was a funny guy.

And if Trump.went back to reality TV, I might even watch.

SolRo - 2019-08-14

Trump is a shit human being at any point in his life, a complete and total scumbag.

Don’t normalize his shittyness.

Don’t tolerate it with the privileged position of ‘his shittyness/racism/greed/stupidity doesn’t affect me so it’s okay to be entertained by it’

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-14

>>>>Don’t tolerate it with the privileged position of ‘his shittyness/racism/greed/stupidity doesn’t affect me so it’s okay to be entertained by it’

Down, Boy.

It affects me enough that in 2017 I went into therapy purely because of anxiety over Trump. I'm on Social Security Disability, living in subsidized housing. I'm pretty much right in the crosshairs. Last year, my food stamps were cut by seventy-two dollars a month and it's led to periods of two or three days at a time, when it's been nothing but ramen and microwave popcorn.

Pardon me, but I think it's a sign of privilege to be able to indulge in righteous anger without interruption. When you're really in the soup, you can't be angry all the time without being terrified. Being terrified doesn't make you much use to anybody.

SolRo - 2019-08-15

You literally said that the problem with trump is that he’s president, and in that position he’s hurting you. But if he weren’t president you’d be okay with what he is, because he wouldn’t be hurting you personally anymore.

He’d still be hurting other people, on a smaller scale, but still a lot of people. And you’d maybe watch his show, because he’s like your racist uncle, and not a racist multimillionaire abusing workers, stealing from charities, cheating his way out of paying taxes, stealing government subsidies, fucking up the housing market, stealing money through sham “universities”, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.

But he wouldn’t be hurting you personally. So he would be tolerable?

Shit like this is why we have literal neo-nazis getting serious interviews on national news shows.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-18

>>>>Shit like this is why we have literal neo-nazis getting serious interviews on national news shows.

("Jerk off" gesture)

>>>You literally said

And you took it real real literally, fleshing out my hypothetical scenery way more than necessary to make my point. When Trump leaves office, I will address the harm that he causes on a case by case basis, and I really was kidding when I said that I would watch his horrible TV show.

You really are an asshole, but at least you're an asshole for the left.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-13

>>>They are both narcissists but I think Kanye is straight up mentally ill whereas Trump just completely feeds off of the attention of people who hate him so he can be combative. His haters never seem to understand that their blanket hatred of him makes him think he's more right about everything.

The alternatives are limited. He can't be ignored, and trust me, if you try to ignore him, that will also somehow prove (to himself) that he is right.

badideasinaction - 2019-08-14

SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS!

Ugh - 2019-08-14

have some ghost stars

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2019-08-14

Actually, privelege doesn't enter into it. I didn't normalize Trump, I humanized him, and so what? Who the fuck are you to tell me how angry I need to be? Most of us have gotten the memo about Trump's incompetence, racism, narcissism, lack of empathy. Do we need to keep sending each other the same memo? I didn't actually stop talking about how terrible Trump is, but what if, just for a moment, I had. I didn't say that I found Trump to be entertaining, but what if I had? Strategically or morally, what is lost?

Nothing is normal about Trump, except that that this shitshow is now part of our everyday life. We have to live through this. I'm in my early sixties, which is charitably referred to as "late middle age". I'm still mourning the loss of someone important to me, and the news is a daily punch in the gut, which is where my hiatal hernia is located. If there's a way I can be entertained by this, I'm going for it.
