Pretty much how Dogecoin started.

Talk about a pump and dump scandal!

themilkshark - 2021-02-18

This is really excellent

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-02-18

Only an idiot would think this is funny.

Which is bad news for me, because I nearly pissed myself laughing.

Any crypto true believers here? I'm a skeptic. I've bought some, but I just don't see how it can maintain value when people are starting these new coins all the time. It feels like tulips, except at least tulips are real.

casualcollapse - 2021-02-18

I am sort of a true believer, I try to play the market but really I should just leave my fucking money in Bitcoin and never look at it for 10 years

SolRo - 2021-02-18

Bitcoin floats on FOMO now. Value goes up because people are buying into it afraid of missing out the rise in its value. So it’s very volatile and prone to crashes based on emotions.

All the earlier promises and allusions of Bitcoin replacing paper money and changing the world are gone, now it’s supposed to replace gold.

Cryptocurrencies have increased our collective greenhouse gas emissions and enercy consumption by an unreasonably large amount. There is no way cryptocurrencies as they stand to survive a change into a sustainable/disastrous future. Their adoption would accelerate their demise from lack of resources and severe climate change, via societal collapse.

Hazelnut - 2021-02-18

I agree with jfcaron. What dystopian garbage if we shift to currencies literally backed by ecological harm, which is all ‘proof of work’ amounts to.

Cena_mark - 2021-02-18

How's that different than our current economy?

casualcollapse - 2021-02-19

Sound money necessarily requires a high cost to create more. Bitcoin consumes a lot of energy and will continue to consume more. This is a feature, not a bug.

casualcollapse - 2021-04-01

https://unchained-capital.com/blog/bitcoin-does-not-waste-energy/ read this

casualcollapse - 2021-04-29

In the long-game, there may be no greater, more important use of energy than that which is deployed to secure the integrity of a monetary network and constructively, in this case, the bitcoin network. But, that doesn’t stop those that do not understand the problem statement from raising concerns.

Conner O'Malley has a face like a possessed ventriloquist dummy in an old TWILIGHT ZONE. I really really wanted to hate this guy, but it's just not working out for me.

themilkshark - 2021-02-21

There's an Eric Andre style self-effacing that makes it all work
