I said I was disappointed that they didn't really explore alternate history and would liked to have seen an episode where the European colonization of the Americas failed and the indigenous peoples had been able to continue developing.

Boy oh boy, did the racists come slithering out of the woodwork to insist the modern indigenous peoples would still be living in crude huts, smearing themselves with animal shit and shoving berries up their nose if not for the benevolence of the White man teaching them all about technology.
