Holy shit I remember this now.

I wrote some kind of serialized science fiction story in my journal in 3rd grade (every kid had to write one page every day on whatever they wanted and up to 4th grade or so teachers would let it slide if you drew a picture for part of it as long as it didn't take up more than like, 1/5 of the page) that had a bunch of military characters with colors for their names (Colonel Black, etc.) and this is where that came from.

To paraphrase Joel Hodgson, there's nothing more pathetic than a marionette trying to run.

Captain Black needs to get some sleep, dude looks rough.

Colonel White looks a lot like Leslie Neilson.

I am unable to reconcile "darker and more intense" with "ridiculous puppets." I'm sure it'd be different if I had watched this as a kid.

Well, yeah it sounds a little silly, but compare and contrast: Thunderbirds was more of a "HEY LET'S GO" kind of thing where people were routinely rescued from death-defying situations and then the Thunderbirds would all sit back and have a laugh about it.

On the other hand, Captain Scarlet contained numerous deaths (a guy getting shot in the damn INTRO...every week!) and the main character, Scarlet, was turned accidentally indestructible by the Mysterons, leading to constant scenarios where he has to endure horrible injuries (or even death) to save the Earth, only to painfully regenerate and return to duty on a regular basis. So, for a kids show, that was kind of dark.

Oh for sure, I don't disagree, it just seemed funny out of context.

The Mysterons. Sworn enemies of Earth. Despite their names, they're not very mysterious, since they stupidly insist on telling everyone their evil plans ahead of time.

They also announce that they know we can hear them and then ask if we heard them.

For a pair of glowing discs up against an entire city and its indestructible hero, they're pretty loud and cocky.

You're gonna cry, cry cry cry...

I noticed a half-decent CGI update to this story out there in cable land, they might even still be running new episodes.

Anyone know the cable network that its on?
