What's with all the "starting point colors your interpretation" stuff?
Science's starting point is assuming you know nothing.
That's why "intelligent design" isn't any kind of science. Because your starting point is assuming the truth of some dusty old book of fairy tales.
How can she even call herself a scientist?
DOES....NOT....COMPUTE...

Wherein, in the first few minutes, a scientist discusses how and why bacteria become evil.

Evolution is not considered a word we can use for anything under any circumstance or context
5 stars for Shermer and is great interviewing method of "tell me how I'm stupid and I'll tell you how you're dead wrong"

pressed peanut sweepings - 2009-06-30 I know of no creationist professors currently teaching there. I wonder what her thesis was? Did she b.s. her way through grad school by lying about her views?
Did not watch, might die of rageahol.

manfred - 2009-06-30 Her thesis is titled "The role of Microphthalmia Transcription Factor (MITF) in the regulation of gene expression during osteoclast differentiation"

Syd Midnight - 2009-07-01 Sometimes creationists take classes they totally disagree with, like geology, so that they can eventually get a legitimate degree. The professors know they disagree with everything they're being taught but as long as they pass the tests, the only thing the professor can do is give them a bad reference, ie. "the student disagrees with every aspect of the syllabus", so hopefully they won't get hired to a position where knowing that the world is billions of years old is extremely important to the job, like mine design or oil drilling.

"Well, that's based on man's ideas..."
Lady, I don't know if you noticed, but you are part of mankind. You are not God. Therefore, no matter how closely you think your beliefs might match those of God, they are and always will be "man's ideas". Your whole way of thinking is based on transferred infallibility.

phalsebob - 2009-06-30 Inerrant word of God (KJV) --> No interpretive mechanism whatsoever --> Her brain
Is this so hard to understand you homosexual Darwinist devil worshipper?
|
IrishWhiskey - 2009-06-30 She emphasizes that anyone who "interprets" is not a real Christian, and then explains how a Hebrew word referred to daily cycles, which in context of the history and that part of the Bible always meant 24 hours.
Its a translation whose meaning is derived from context and use of similar examples. If that's not interpretation, I don't know what is.
Really, there is no such thing as Biblical literalism. There's too much contradiction for anyone to follow every word. So claiming to follow only the literal word is just another mechanism for ignoring all other thoughts, arguments, or facts that disturb a deeply ingrained mental condition.

Does it make me a bad person if the first thing that I don't like about her is her head-cold voice, the second thing that I don't like about her is her gestures and facial expressions and the *third* thing that I don't like about her is her words?
Also, this is very rage-inducing.

Oh yea... I've been watching a huge number of creation/evolution videos for the past little bit (don't ask). I'll submit a few of the more logic nipple twisting ones when I get the chance.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2009-06-30
This woman is broken. And I don't often say that about people. She only became a scientist to try and prove her imaginary history of the world when it is impossible to do so. 11:25 forward he tallks about the dilemma of spin doctoring evidence to fit your preconceived views which she completely fucking ignores by claiming all scientists are biased.
Also, does she have some kind of speech impediment? Why would God make his only begotten evolutionary scientist sound like a tard?

There are so many holes in this woman's logic
Why did God wait 4000 years to fix things?
Are the Biblical forefathers who came before Christ rotting in hell?
How do we know God is telling the truth? Guy could be lying.

dueserpenti - 2009-06-30
If a source of information tells you one lie, then all of its other statements must also be lies. And conversely, if it tells you one truth, all of its other statements must be true. Christians and atheists have been arguing back and forth for years starting from this premise without ever seeming to realize how insane it is. I have no idea why, because literally anyone of greater intelligence than a four-year old can see the problem with it, yet the debate rages on.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-07-01
Completely ignoring the twisted wreck that is that lady's mind for a second...Ken Miller is Catholic, not Evangelical or Born Again. I wish the interviewer would have gotten that right.
She really is right about the "starting point" stuff. 100 years from now I'm sure there will be many scientific explanations for things that we look back on and say "oh that was our worldview then, it's easy to see how we could have made that mistake." Specifically with QM there were a lot of growing pains, people looking for hidden variables, Einstein being one of them.
But that's still a really great thing about science. No one assumes that just because their father believed it, it must be right.
He nails her at 8:10...I can't even be mad at someone like this. How could you? It's just depressing is all.
