Birthers are the new truthers!

A "certificate of live birth" is Hawaii's legal analogue of that piece of paper you probably have in your filing cabinet at home, and you pull it out every time you need a driver's license, social security card, or background investigation.

Basically, a "long-form birth certificate" contains no additional information that would be useful in determining citizenship status. The right-wing nutjobs are just making up laws on the spot and feigning surprise when the rest of the world isn't following them.

The overall effect of this is to 1) keep wingnuts too busy to participate in the debate on healthcare, energy etc, 2) make wingnuts look especially out of touch with reality to the electorate, 3) damage national morale. 1 & 2 don't bother me, but 3 pisses me off to no end.

Part of me feels that there must be some well-camouflaged lefty trolls on conservative forums that keep raising this issue, because it does nothing to advance the conservative agenda, short or long term.
