Almost loses a star for showing the Death Star explosion from the 90s remaster instead of the original version that they implied they were showing. But I can't bring myself to be that petty.

Of course as amazing as the early stuff was given the technology of the day, things just get insane when CG's involved.

-1 for no "Intolerance" by D.W. Griffith, no "2001", not even a nod to "The Matrix", and yeah they managed to work "Forbidden Planet" in there but there's far more impressive visual effects stuff in that movie than the clips this editor chose.

robocop!

starship troopers!

though I'm more a fan of good prop/set work ahead of SFX...robocop suit, LoTR sets, mad max car scenes, terminator skeletal robots, aliens puppets etc

Hooper_X - 2009-08-24

Fucking Lord of the Rings, already.

FABIO - 2010-05-15

Yeah, regardless of what you thought of The Matrix, leaving that out of a "100 years of movie special effects" clip is like doing a documentary on color in movies and leaving out the Wizard of Oz.

kamlem - 2009-08-24

John Carpenters The Thing and City of Lost Children are two I would have included.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2009-08-24

Really? No matrix bullet time?

infinite zest - 2009-08-24

HEY I SAID "MOST OF" IN THE DESCRIPTION YOU JERX! That being said, where the fuck are like, most movies?

phalsebob - 2009-08-24

Early FX are horribly underrepresented.

memedumpster - 2009-08-24

It's amazing how unexpectedly good some of the old effects are. It's also amazing how long it took CG to not look like crap.

Simian Pride - 2009-08-24

Fuck them for no Méliès
