I have a hard time picking either trite musician as the superior artist.

Well, I don't know for sure. What I do know:

I read something about a hilarious Kanye West / Taylor Swift thing on MTV, so I googled their names and this article said it was supposed to be a joke, or whatever. That's what I'm basing this on.

Also, reports of hilarity were greatly exaggerated.

Well, the cameraman already being all crouched in Beyonce's face the for the reaction shot is a little suspect. Whatever, MTV. Still, I stand by my bold assertion that Taylor Swift is fucking garbage and deserves no sympathy.

The camera was on her because she was nominated for that same award. There were probably cameras on the other nominees as well. -1 star because there's a version available on youtube that isn't filmed by a handheld camera.

Legitimately awesome... Right. Mr. West is many things, but I wouldn't choose either of those words to describe him.

I'm going to need an explanation of what's awesome about a decent pop rapper. If you could throw in explanation of why anyone would do this in support of a Beyonce song, that would be great too.

Just the video? I can't see interrupting someone's award over my feelings about a music video. Unless it was the year "Institutionalized" came out, of course.

If you don't care about music videos, then I guess it'll have to seem outlandish to you. But people in the industry like Kanye West do care about music videos, and they care about seeing an achievement like Beyonce's video recognized.

It would have been much better if the lights had gone out and Kanye, wearing corpse makeup, appeared on the jumbotron and ominously yelled "I will not... REST IN PEACE!" Then, as ominous organ music played, his manager appeared and shoved Taylor Swift into a coffin.

It would have been better if Taylor Swift had successfully pinned Kanye West and taken the VMA from him, but then the REAL Kanye West crawled out from under the stage and pinned Taylor Swift, who was all tired and weak from fighting Kanye's brother, who was dressed to look like him.

i know who they are because the culture bureaus have ensured i can't go a fucking day without being barraged with their goddamned focus-grouped sticky pop pap images and sounds

and the fact that there are actual musicians making great fucking music that has no chance of widespread exposure because of these insepid polymer fucks and their armies of PR and A&R cocksuckers substituting "brand" over talent, expression & innovation combined with their monopolization of all major music distribution systems ('cept the internet) enrages me to no end
