You can hang out with your lettuce, HIPPIES!

Cena_mark - 2009-11-09

They should just get their food at Walmart. That's what I do.

baleen - 2009-11-09

You don't say! You mean you're bland and uninteresting? Please, continue dazzling the internet with your tales of wrestling fandom and your rightwing healthcare wishlists.

MongoMcMichael - 2009-11-12

Oh wow it's baleen.

Look, I generally hate people who think cities need to be somehow turned into farm country, resist building new structures (in the cities), etc. And living in San Francisco, this video hits close to home. However, there is a real problem with "food poverty" in San Francisco and Oakland and other cities, where the working and lower classes don't have access to food that isn't prepackage consumer liquor/convenient store/fast food either because of cost or proximity. What this woman is doing at least addresses this issue.

Also, the woman's opossum story reminded me of a few scenes in Life & Times Of Michael K. by JM Coetzee.

memedumpster - 2009-11-09

Scared of the goats? I think the bees are more of a crime deterrent.

OPOSSUM KILLER!!!!

Rape Van Winkle - 2009-11-10

Gaahhah! Not the opossums!

heyitslozeau - 2009-11-09

I loved this.

kingofthenothing - 2009-11-10

Yeah, me too. I tried my own very first garden in earnest this year. It was a lot more work than I thought and my time really started to get away from me. I had no game plan, no prescription for how to do it, I just had a lot of seeds and big ideas, and it didn't take long for reality to make me humble.

My grandma made it look so easy when I was young. I wish I had the sense back to then to take some notes.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-11-10

I have friends that do this. Well, they do the dumpster diving part.

pastorofmuppets - 2009-11-10

Ack, not a reply. Your reply was going to say "that post was poetry"

Things I learned today: pigs are tasty when fed peaches.

I really liked this. Quite happily I'm doing a project on local foods and agriculture systems and I totally forgot to include the stuff going on in Oakland.

This woman is correct on many issues. Especially chard. Chard is awesome.

glasseye - 2009-11-10

Chard IS awesome.

facek - 2009-11-09

6:28 almost made me choke on saliva when it zooms in on those shiftless goats staring at the camera from the ally.

abeli$con - 2009-11-10

lol that woman is so ugly i can see why this video is evil

Walt Henderson - 2009-11-10

You again. I hope a goat comes in your ear.

Rovin - 2009-11-10

And I hope a big Hollywood director films it when it happens.

Freeman Gordon - 2009-11-10

In terms of the eye characteristics she mentioned, I'm not sure if she is a predator or prey.

gSSEhh - 2009-11-10

This woman is living my dream.

MaulLove - 2009-11-10

I hope she realizes her dream of becoming the goat piper of Oakland.

Kumquatxop - 2009-11-10

Yes. And I hope she has a designated goat piper hat.

Syd Midnight - 2009-11-10

This is a really good idea. Like she points out, most of the world expects you to have chickens or pigs if you have any land. I wish I had the ability to do this.

mashedtater - 2009-11-10

me too.

chumbucket - 2009-11-10

Oakland is doomed for lack of Vitamin D

Ursa_minor - 2009-11-10

not vitamin DONK

bias - 2009-11-11

vitamin drank?

citrusmirakel - 2009-11-11

I like her.

Lies, lies, LIES! - 2009-11-13

I enjoyed this, but I don't like the focus of series: "Oh, look at these CRAZY people who know and care about things. How insane they must be to not melt into their couches."
