The Corpus of American English (http://www.americancorpus.org) allows users to search for word prevalence in one of the largest collections of spoken speech ever recorded. The collection is comprised mostly of television and radio transcripts with quite a bit of news coverage.

A quick search for the word 'unprecedented' revealed that it is a more popular word than 'terrorist', and appears with alarming frequency in all media.

A second quick search revealed that among the spoken sources, the largest provider of examples was Fox News. Within Fox News the largest contributor was Glenn Beck.

I'm not saying that means that Glenn Beck raped and killed a girl in 1990, but it certainly doesn't say anything to deny such a claim.

I'd rather hear "unprecedented" another thousand times then here a person in a position of power use the term "evil doer" ever again.

From the context of the things he was saying, most of it WAS unprecedented.

And at least he can pronounce "nuclear".

Also, if you spell "unprecedented" backwards in ancient sumerian it spells.....the name of the antichrist!

This is one of the media's more annoying and destructive traits, and its rampant on all sources. In fact, its all that Politico does now.
