man! what a jerk!
Is anyone surprised that someone who owns a store selling cheap reproductions of Americana is kind of a bigot?
Indiana Residents Support Racist “Kolored Kids” Soap Seller
"After hearing about the soap, Carolyn Gentner bought two bars including one labeled "Kolored Kids."
'I don't think they're offensive, I think they're nostalgic," she told Fox59 News. "I believe if this is going to be an issue, we should be in Kroger for selling Aunt Jemima syrup.'"
Carolyn Gentner, who is a member of the Facebook group "DEAR LORD, THIS YEAR YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTOR, PATRICK SWAYZIE. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTRESS, FARAH FAWCETT. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE SINGER, MICHAEL JACKSON. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW, MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT IS BARACK OBAMA. AMEN"
I am positive that Carolyn Gentner is wholly convinced she is not a racist. She hates black people and jews and hispanics and asians, but she is not racist at all.
No, no, no. She doesn't have hate in her heart for any race and would be shocked and insulted by the insinuation. There are good and bad people of all colors.
She simply dislikes those blacks that rob and rape, those Jews that run Wall Street and Hollywood, those Hispanics that sneak in to steal jobs, and those Asians that are taking over her neighborhood with their stores and driving real Americans out of work.
Of course, as all non-PC people know, its reasonable to treat members of those races as if they'll live up to those expectations, because most of them do. And if you slip her a bottle of wine, she'll say that mixed race babies aren't as good for society. But really, she's not racist at all.
oh I get it...she only hates blacks, jews, latinos, and asians that don't ACT WHITE
Here's another great quote (this time from RenFair fatty Beth Montano-Woodard), especially since they are posting in response to the news article that has an expert saying the soaps are inaccurate:
Beth Montano-WoodardFox - 59 WXIN Indianapolis
This is where the soaps are coming from. They are selling them as Black Americana, which is becoming highly collectable. Yes, it is a part of our nations history, but not something that should be swept under the rug. "Those that don't know history are destined to repeat it." Edmund Burke.
Courtney Van Velse - I saw that website earlier today too, Fox 59 just embarassed themselves wth their awful reporting
Beth Montano-Woodard - The Google-fu is weak in their reporters.
Robin Smith Davis - Finally....someone who actually knows the facts.....thanks Beth
Tina Durham-Maples - MAYBE FOX 59 SHOULD HAVE DONE THEIR DAMN INVESTIGATING BEFORE SHOWING SUCH IGNORANCE!!!!
Christ, I just found the soap asshole's online store. He sells nothing but racist crap: http://www.oldtimecollectibles.com/
"De bestest old time store der iss"
"Many of my customers buy a few bars for themselves to proudly display in their bathroom, mantle, bar, business, you name it."
Yeah, that sounds like a not so subtle way of letting your non-white customers know they aren't welcome and that they probably shouldn't count on their food being untainted.
jeez, the only non-racist things there are frat-level giggling-at-modern-meanings-for-in-their-day-innocuous words:
"Gay Johnny Cowboy Soap"
"Morning Cock Soap" (it has a rooster on it)
"Little Pussy Soap" (it has a kitten on it)
It's too bad the Coon Chicken Inn portion of the website is still under construction.
But at least the calendar showing a black child being fellated by a goose is
People come into a old-timey shop and are SHOCKED that racists items are sold therein.
That said, don't sell racist items as a joke, sir. Kolored Kids is not funny. Nor is Darkie Shaving Soap or whatever that soap is that is blurred out (Coon, Sambo, or Nigger Soap I assume).
Morning Cock and Dancing Pussy certainly are hilarious, though.
It's a shop that sells nothing but racist old timey shit. And according to the new article I linked to, most, if not all, of the soap is made up. So it's fanart of old racist soaps, not even accurate.
Even if I were in an old timey shop, the following soap names would shock the shit out of me:
Nigger Head Tar Soap
Little Niggers Soap
Nigger Joe's Tar Soap 1900's
Oh, that's something different entirely. Sorry Maul, I posted the comment before you posted the article.
I was under the impression it was an actual antique store, which usually do have knickknacks that are racist depictions of black people (and other minorities).
Devil's advocate: This stuff will be an interesting curiosity 500 years from now when the only white people are albinos and everyone is brown. So I guess this guy's ahead of his time.

What happens when a Harlem pimp buys an NJ carwash to launder his earnings? Titillating blaxploitation hi-jinx meets gang violence in this unconventional cult classic.
I need to get back to grading papers, but one last link. Stormfront weighs in:
There are of course a bunch of racist comments, but my favorite comment is:
and all this time i though fox news were on are side
Gotta love the grade-school, iron-clad logic the guy is using.
"Don't these soaps seem racist?"
"YOU SEEM RACIST!"
"Don't you think they might possibly be offensive?"
Okay before anyone gets more worked up, lets review:

When white people finally become the minority in this country they're going to look back on this with regret.

They'll bring back those horrible novelty laundry detergents, that say they keep whites whiter.
where's the exploding van?
How else are you going to wash off your blackface?
"This is history!"... maybe if the designs weren't so anachronistic. This is passive aggressive racism. It's also the bottom of the barrel as far as stories go, so I'm not surprised a local news team furiously scraping it.
