This was very interesting. Thank you!
Also, it'll make telling creationists to google transitional fossils a lot trickier since they'll probably end up at answers in genesis first instead of say wikipedia and then talk origins like i do.

Like modern American conservatism has all these challenging, thought-provoking, meaningful new ideas. If I actually wanted to wallow in the ravings of fascists, racists, misogynists, homophobes, Randian gold hoarders, would-be Christian theocrats and assorted conspiracy theorists, I'd go read some Free Republic forum treads.
Filter away, guys. Filter away.

Excellent talk. Although I give props to things like last.fm throwing music my way that I would have never, ever considered listening to before. I hope they don't continue the "over tailor" to end up making what I listen to sound all the same (like over-air radio today).

It is pretty fucked up if you think about it in terms of having friends and family on Facebook, and their sorting them out might make you think they've disappeared, or if they sort you of their feeds you might come to believe they just don't give a shit about you anymore. In some ways, the information network is very important for real life things - I found out my grandmother died on Facebook long before anyone told me in real life. Mucking around with that, deciding how I get to interact with the people I choose in my life FOR ME, is fucked up.
And here I thought it was just going to be about those stupid targeted ads. It's targeted everything. Jesus. It's no wonder everything's gotten so hard to find these days. I thought it was just because of the information explosion, but it's not, they've been throwing roadblocks in my way.
Aarrrrrgh.
