@Shoebox; the late Eric Laithwaite would have _loved_ these new kinds of gyro toys.
He and his associates believed it might be possible to "beat newton" and achieve some kind of reactionless drive. Real implementations have always suffered from a need for something to react against ( like the table top, as shown here ).
If it seems an impossible dream, consider that for decades it was thought Earnshaw's theorem precluded balancing a magnet in a static field. It took a toy manufacturer to disprove that, with those spinning floating magnet top toys you see at Spencers.
