It's a funny path that science fiction television has to take in order to really shine. Start out serious-faced and kind of formulaic, then lean into character development and world building, and once there's some confidence and some level of job security, start to have some fun with it. Then, once a season, have one episode that's completely ridiculous. Stargate had no business being as good as it got.

Stargate followed the Star Trek TNG formula.

Have a shitty first season that tried too hard to do the thing it’s predecessor did. Get good in the middle and have a shitty last season.

They even followed the formula of having the best season being the one without a beloved main character (TNGs best season was the one without Crusher, Stargate’s best was the one without Daniel...because Parker Lewis can’t lose!)

Saying TNG season 2 was the best is factually incorrect and patently ridiculous.
