I just want to point out that we're engaged in a military occupation of part of another country without their permission. ISIS is defeated, we're there to thwart Iran and its allies. There's no international legal basis for this other than "self defense". Domestically, its legal basis is the 2002 (!!!) Authorization to Use Military Force for the invasion of Iraq (which is, you might recall, a different country).

The gap between how America behaves as an international actor and how we demand other countries behave is just breathtaking. And it just never really shows up in the mainstream discourse; we just take it for granted.
