Old_Zircon - 2015-06-13 Imagine the amount of work that went in to getting the shape of the domino egg to match the shape of the real egg so closely. I would love to know how they did it. The best idea I can come up with is to take a still of the egg from the video of it cracking and project it onto the floor where the dominos are to be set up from the same position the camera will be at, then trace the outlines of the projected image with something removable like painter's tape (or just make the outline too close to the floor color for it to show up in the final video) and work from there. Kind of like projection mapping but in reverse.
Old_Zircon - 2015-06-13 Or I suppose they could have taken a photo of the egg from directly above the pan so there was no foreshortening, then overlaid a grid on that with each cell representing a domino and used that as a map to set them up. They would also have to match the position of the camera between the shots.
Old_Zircon - 2015-06-13 Well, it's clearly not laid out on a grid, but that second method would still work for transferring the outline of the real egg to the floor where the dominos were set up.
