The internet tells me that if you are a state trooper who has pulled someone over on an interstate highway, then odds that a car will smash into you are 9/10. The odds that you will dodge such cars are 8/10.
My state is currently having an epidemic of that happening. 4 (a few may have gone unreported) troopers/cops have been killed in the last 3 months or so. Out of the many stops that cops actualy do perform, that's still a low percentage of actual occurrences, but every beat cop will tell you that there is no such thing as a "routine" traffic stop.
