John Holmes Motherfucker - 2010-12-30
Back in the 70s, these syndicated variety talk shows were amazing for these incredible juxtapositions. Some of these shows had to fill seven and a half hours of programming a week, the TV audience had not yet been fragmented by cable and market research, and nothing was off limits. You may have already seen the clip of a young Gene Simmons with Totie Fields, or perhaps Iggy Pop talking about the roots of punk with a bemused Dinah Shore, with an amused David Bowie standing by. Rhino used to sell a boxed set of the VHS tapes from the week that Mike Douglas had John Lennon and Yoko Ono on as co-hosts for a week. Other cohosts were Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, and Tiny Tim.
