I like to think that although humanity does have a lot of bad points, such as blowing things up, we also have a lot of good points, such as music, arts, literature and entertainment. A superior species would have a lot to gain by not blowing us up, and a lot to lose by not blowing us up.

I imagine a New Yorker cartoon with Meerkat's post as a speech balloon above the head of conversing native leaders as they watch a fleet of Spanish galleons or English frigates or something appear off their coast for the first time.

And that's if we're lucky and they're almost exactly like us like us. We do not sink our treasuries and navies into traveling vast distances to lavish free gifts or advanced technology upon weaker civilizations, besides free bullets and advanced digging technology.

If we're unlucky, there'd be a species gap and they'd show us the same courtesy and altruism that a clutch of invasive Guatemalan spiny lamprey eggs would show your local pond trout community. Nature's a bitch.

Well, we're in the Orion Spur of stars between two giant arms, so aliens would probably have to...

1. ... be locals, so who knows what half crazed socialist drugged out hippie species' barely working piece of crap starship might accidentally crash here some day trying to hit Mars.

2. ... be from a spiral arm, which means they crossed a lot of space to be here, so probably wont see us as anything above animal life and probably have solved all the problems of getting whatever they want out of the universe, so wouldn't even want to see us.

3. ... be Jesus.
