I don't know which one is Cena but one of them is channeling Bruce McCollough in this bit.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-04-20

I preferred it when everyone was closeted about liking these things.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-19

Hey Cena (or any other top-level brony, for that matter), I'm soldiering my way through Season One, and I have a question for you.

I'm thinking that Rainbow Dash is my pony. It may be too early to tell (I've only seen a few episodes), but my gut instinct says to go with Rainbow Dash, and, just to be sure, I took some online pony personality tests to see which pony I would be most compatible with. Sure enough, I score maximum compatibility points with Rainbow Dash, beating out the average brony by quite a large margin. I score pretty highly with Twilight Sparkle, too. I'm about level with the community average for Applejack, and *significantly* below average for Rarity and Pinkie Pie. These results don't really surprise me. I am, however, consistently scoring *zero* for compatibility with Fluttershy; this is distressing, because Fluttershy is absolutely adorable, and I think she's my second favorite pony, after Rainbow Dash (third if you count Derpy). I'm rather upset about this score, but I'm thinking, maybe it's just a case of "opposites attract"?

Anyway, earlier, you discussed the man point costs incurred through watching this show. So I was wondering, what is the cost in man points for being a Rainbow Dash fan? She's a total tomboy, and has that badass/fighter-jock attitude found in chicks like Starbuck and Tank Girl, so I imagine the cost is fairly low... but then again, the whole "rainbow" thing might inflate the cost by quite a bit, and I figure it's good to ask, so's I won't have any nasty surprises come monthly budget time.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-19

(anyone can feel free to answer that question, but please try and be accurate, because Lord knows what will happen if I low-ball the cost of being a Rainbow Dash fan and wind up going over-budget. I'm already watching Downton Abbey, so I don't have a lot of wiggle room here)

*pours a 40 on the block for EvilHomer*

RocketBlender - 2013-04-19

This is honestly pretty funny.

As long as someone else brought it up, I tried to watch a bit beyond the pilot myself. Maybe it's just because I'm old now, but something really bothers me about the show, despite having it's moments, if I'm being fair; am I the only one that thinks the little dragon gets treated like shit? I mean seriously, he gets treated really really poorly and is way too often the butt of a joke for a character in a show that's all about friendship.

Am I the only one bothered by this?

RocketBlender - 2013-04-19

Also, EH, whose Starbuck? Never heard of whatever she's from, but I generally like books/shows that have that kind if a lead.

memedumpster - 2013-04-19

Starbuck is wingman to the Mormon Jesus and no, I'm not kidding.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-20

Rocket- what meme said. She's the main heroine from Battlestar Galactica, and while I don't want to ruin the plot for anyone (IT'S AWESOME no matter what some other complainy-bitch nerds might tell you), the show is loosely based on Mormon cosmology (the whacky space-shit the Church doesn't like to advertise), and yes, Starbuck is totally Mormon Jesus' wingman.

Spike seems to be treated like shit, but you have to remember he's the lone sausage at the clam fest (a major bonus for any guy), so I figure that's just karma balancing things out.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-20

Whoah nevermind, I just watched the Winter episode, and those damn ponies gave Spike HYPOTHERMIA. That's... that's really messed up.

Who lets their sleeping friend fall through some ice into a frigid lake because it would be "funny"?

Cena_mark - 2013-04-20

I explained earlier that liking RD did cost one of the lower amounts of man points, but still more than Applejack. AJ and RD are both tomboys, but RD's rainbow colors cost more man points than AJ's yellow and orange. Also AJ wears a cool hat.
I never took any personality tests, I just liked Applejack.

Paracelsus - 2013-04-20

I'm thunderstruck at your choice of MLP over Downton Abbey as an investment strategy.

Nikon - 2013-04-20

@EvilHomer
Some bad things will happen to the Mane Six once Spike grows into a full-sized dragon.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-20

Yes, but I need an exact total. I'm on a tight budget here.

And while I agree that Applejack is a pretty manly pony, there's no way she's manlier than Rainbow Dash. No. Bucking. Way.

Now, I've already addressed my misgivings about Rainbow's color schemes. However, I believe that, on closer examination, it's not as serious a problem as it may at first appear. Cultural signs are never static and their meaning is never absolute; with that in mind, I'd argue that, in Rainbow Dash's hooves, the rainbow becomes a "tomboy power color", a gendered sign that has been subverted and reclaimed in the name of manliness. Good old fashioned gun-shooting, plane flying, MMA fighting manliness. Consider how the gay community subverted the concept of "macho manliness", taking mustaches and biker leather, once the exclusive domain of alpha males and bouncers, and reshaping them into an antithesis of traditional masculinity. RD is a socio-cultural pioneer who operates along similar lines, only now the regendering is in reverse. Instead of being an atypically gendered male who rebels against the conventions of 20th century society by taking traditionally masculine/hetero cultural symbols and reworking them into feminine/queer ones, RD is an atypically gendered female who rebels against the conventions of 21st century society by taking traditional feminine/queer cultural symbols and recontextualizing them into a masculine/hetero framework. In fact, it's not inconceivable that, as a direct result of RD's manly re-imagining of rainbows-as-gendered-sign, we'll see the cultural meaning of rainbows do a 180 degree shift within a single generation. Perhaps, thanks to the brave efforts of Rainbow Dash, our children will look back on our time and wonder at how we could ever have percieved rainbows as a symbol of anything other than complete badassery?

But even if you don't accept this line of reasoning, *even if* you insist that RD's color is just plain gay, then absolute worst case scenario, RD is still at least 20% more manly than AJ.

Who won the Iron Pony contest? Who won by TEN POINTS? Answer me that.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-20

Also, I'd just like to say that I started watching Downton Abbey because Jessica Brown Findlay is total boner bait, and I hardly ever cry more than once an episode.

Cena_mark - 2013-04-20

Sorry, but you still lose 90 man points.
If you're on a tight budget then get more man points. Become a bouncer, join a coast guard, build some muscle.

Who cheated during the Iron Pony contest. I mean come on, there's gotta be some established rules in Equstria for ponies of different races to compete against each other fairly. Using your wings in the long jump, come on!

Also I hate RD for the way she talks, she could make a Ninja Turtle blush.

EvilHomer - 2013-04-20

Hell YEAH she could make a Ninja Turtle blush. That's manly as fuck, dude. It's interesting that you put it that way, though, because she totally reminds me of a Ninja Turtle. She'd have a rainbow eye mask, and her weapons would be a pair of electrical tonfas. At first people would be all, "oh no, this is stupid, it's Venus the Turtle meets Mondo Gecko", but eventually, with her mad skills in pony ninjitsu and her on-again-off-again shipping with Mikey (NOT RAPH everyone thinks it'd be Raph but it's not Raph dammit), she'd win the fans over and go on to star in her own spinoff cartoon show and an American-manga graphic novel series.

And how did she "cheat"? At no point in time did anypony say she couldn't use her wings, and even if they did, that would just be stupid. It would be like telling Applejack she couldn't use her legs! What possible purpose could forbidding RD to use her athletic talents serve, other than to admit that the contest is completely one-sided and The Dash needs a serious handicap just to keep things interesting? AJ is strong, but she's a one trick pony; she just can't compete at Rainbow's level, and the results proved it.

And don't even get me started on the race. If you need to literally TIE YOUR OPPONENT'S LIMBS BEHIND HER BACK just so you can have a fighting chance, then maybe this is a competition you don't deserve to win.

Shoebox Joe - 2013-04-20

These stars are for EvilHomer and witnessing some one on PoETV use "bucking".

You are gone, man. You are fucking gone. The tallest always crash the hardest.

@RocketBlender: Yeah, he's usually the oblivious punching bag, but they gave him some leverage in Bridle Gossip with the curse names and in Season 2. It's About Time and Dragon Quest are the big ones.

RocketBlender - 2013-04-20

I may look those up. I tend to gravitate towards underdog kind of characters for some odd reason. Honestly, if you were going to force me to pick a favorite, he'd be it, loyal and dutiful to a fault. I think that's why what I've seen bugs me so much, poor guy is mistreated like mad. I didn't even know about the hypothermia yet.

Is Spike allowed to be a favorite, or does it have to be a pony?

Shoebox Joe - 2013-04-20

@RocketBlender: I haven't seen anyone say Spike is their favorite myself, but I don't see why anyone can't. At least they couldn't during Season 1 since he didn't really stand out.

Shoebox Joe - 2013-04-20

@RocketBlender Forgot to note, if you're going for underdog, go with Dragon Quest.

RocketBlender - 2013-04-21

If I had to pick an actual pony, based on what I've seen, I'd probably pick Apple Jack, since she's a hard worker that doesn't bitch about all their hard work.

I imagine that as a nerd, I would like Twilight Sparkle (Do the other 4 have last names? I only know those 2.), but I can't really like her all that much. As Spike's (owner? Best friend?), you'd think she'd be the first to watch out for him, but often trying to help her is the source of one of his personal injuries, to her response of "hehehe, oh Spike!"

Bitch.

Cena_mark - 2013-04-21

I didn't mean that to be a good thing. When she used the word "Radicalness" I wanted to turn her into glue.

Also she needed her wings tied because it was a RUNNING race. You don't use wings for running just like you don't for push ups or long jumps. RD is a dirty cheater and a bigger jerk than Rarity.

DriverStabby - 2013-04-22

I took a pony compatibility quiz and I'm twilight sparkle. My girlfriend took the same quiz and she's pinkie pie. I don't like pinkie pie very much. Are she and twilight sparkle friends on the show? I'm kind of concerned about what this might portend for my relationship.

DriverStabby - 2013-04-22

Okay, nobody needs to worry about me. I looked it up and they are friends on the show. I'm really glad.

Shoebox Joe - 2013-04-22

DriverStabby, Pinkie is often the foil to Twilight's overthinking of things! That's the only thing you have to worry about!

memedumpster - 2013-04-19

Forgot to rate, I actually like this video! Cena is the one on the right, I can only assume the one on the left is EvilHomer circa 2013.

Cena_mark - 2013-04-20

The funny thing is during my anti-pony phase I said I hated Applejack the least.

MrBuddy - 2013-04-20

Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash is (are?) best pony?
Stars are for the ending.

gmol - 2013-04-20

There is a second part to this. Wow.

Father Avalanche - 2013-04-20

Never seen the cartoon, will never watch the cartoon, but these bronies are alright with me. The rest of them aren't, however.

knowless - 2013-04-20

are yall fucking serious?

Shoebox Joe - 2013-04-20

@RocketBlender Forgot, if you're going for underdog, go with Dragon Quest.

chumbucket - 2013-04-26
