This is such a brilliant movie. Sadly, no skeleton was even nominated by the Academy that year.

The subsurface scattering on that skeleton is outrageous, the render time must have been intimidating.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-06-05

Scattering? You mean when someone tossed a bag of bones onto some rocks from just off-camera? It wasn't all that impressive and was the wrong angle/velocity for the fall.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-06-05

It almost looks like a physically solid thing. That's something they've only gotten good at in the past few years.

Old_Zircon - 2013-06-05

They still aren't that good at it, really. In the recent stuff I've seen it seems more like they're making the actual solid stuff look more like CGI in post and that's making the CGI stick out less.

speaking purely in terms of visual artistry, I'd much rather see a 100% CGI movie than most CGI-heavy blockbusters I've seen.

Old_Zircon - 2013-06-05

Honestly, even the best CGI still looks like a cost-cutting measure to me (which it kind of is - just the massive amount of space needed to do quality rear-projection work like they used in movies like this would be prohibitive nowdays compared to the amount of space needed for a greenscreen studio and a render farm).

I didn't know you could measure distance in Rhodium. Or that Sinbad ventured 7 Rhodiums!

Aw. You "fixed" it.
