fuck you, fuck this, and fuck making it the first thing in John Carpenter appreciation week.
You DID know he made one before this in New York, right?
Jack Dalton - 2013-07-15 He did? I had no idea.
This is my 8th favorite Carpenter movie-- I thought it deserved a little more appreciation, but thanks for telling me to get fucked :) question-- when someone says fuck you, are they essentially telling you to get fucked? I didn't want to turn this into a conversation about semantics, but I'm genuinely curious.

infinite zest - 2013-07-15 Hey now, I'm reserving my one star for "Vampires"
infinite zest - 2013-07-15 What I liked about "LA" is that it was the exact same plot. Luc Besson's "Lockout" is "Escape from NY/LA" in Space Prison and it's still fun. If you really want to get into it, "Big Trouble in Little China" is more-or-less the same plot as well. Carpenter knew what he was doing when he created this campy gem.

*terrible 'Escape From LA'

Nominal - 2013-07-15
Can we kick off Spielberg appreciation week with Indiana Jones 4?
Jack Dalton - 2013-07-15 It's way more interesting to start with something divisive...unless you want every post to turn into a Aintitcool circle jerk.

I saw this in the theater, and compared to Independence Day, this thing is a fucking masterpiece.
fedex - 2013-07-15 now I know you're trolling
Caminante Nocturno - 2013-07-15 Independence Day is the kind of film that the more times you watch it, the more you realize that it's actually terrible. This movie never had that problem, so I guess I have to give it at least three stars for that.
So, two stars.

I'm a huge Carpenter mark, perhaps the biggest here and I like this movie. You guys are too damned uptight.

I saw this and escape from NY years and years after playing the MGS series. I never realized just how much of a hack Kojima was until I saw them. Has that man ever had an original idea?
RocketBlender - 2013-07-15 For the record, those 5 stars are entirely for the realization I had watching those movies, and nothing else.
Caminante Nocturno - 2013-07-15 Kojima is to American culture what Tarantino is to Japanese culture.

Species - 2013-07-15
I'm giving this five stars because I'm drunk and the other day the top of my hand got scratched on a piece of metal in the oven when I was cleaning it. For a week, every time I looked down at it, I was reminded of Snake being "Infected" with the government flu. That is all.
Jack Dalton - 2013-07-15
Yeah it's a rehash... And there are 10 million Carpenter scenes to kick off "an appreciation week"-- but this movie gets a bad rap that's a little unfair. Plus it is a pretty badass way to end a movie.
Billy the Poet - 2013-07-15 The appropriate ones would be head-spider from The Thing or the alley fight from They Live, but they're both already here.
TheOtherCapnS - 2013-07-15
-2 for this not being the surfing scene with Peter Fonda.
DriverStabby - 2013-07-15
In the previous movie he was a bad enough dude to rescue the president. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?
memedumpster - 2013-07-15
I liked this movie, but Escape From New York was better. Still, considering the usual quality of sequels, this movie is better than it should have been.
Riskbreaker - 2013-07-15
You guys woke up today quite grumpy. I guess you need some MLP videos to cool down.

STABFACE - 2013-07-15
This scene has always stuck with me. It's not often that the hero winning at the end of the movie involves condemning the world to the Stone Age, but here we are.
Jack Dalton - 2013-07-15 Exactly-- it's not a great example of a John Carpenter movie... But it was an incredibly cynical and cool way to end the film... I think these kinds of moments are what make his movies memorable...
StanleyPain - 2013-07-15
I liked it personally. It was just John Carpenter and Kurt Russell fucking around and making a satire of the original. I'm cool with that.
Jet Bin Fever - 2013-07-15
I loved this movie. In some ways its terrible, but when it is its SO terrible as to be hilarious and likable.
lotsmoreorcs - 2013-07-15
this movie is amazing, especially for peter fondas role as the patchilated surfer who just keeps emerging and dissapearing into the bushes, snake riding a swell wave on one of said such surfboards and leaping from it onto steve buscemis convertible, and of course the hang gliding uzi and gladitorial battle, oh and the parade. and rob zombies original song "escape from LA", this movie is top level 90s extravagance even if it is a THINLY veiled shot for shot remake of the original. instant favorite

Snake Pliskin? I thought he was dead.
