The kick manoeuvre seems to make so much sense on a bike when there are unnecessary traffic cones or road signs impeding the way. Somehow it never goes quite right and physics always wins.

Nah you just have to hold your foot forward at mirror height and steer it into the mirror rather than kick outwards like this guy.

Alternatively, remove your helmet and use it to punch off the rearview mirror.

supposedly some people carry hammers on their bikes for situations like this. probably works better.
