This was kind of my Naked Lunch moment from the Simpsons: we rented it because the clerk was cool and as long as his supervisor wasn't around would rent to us kids. There were no vampires. I guess at the time I thought Zevon was talking about actual werewolves too.. anyway see it if you haven't.

I miss cool video store clerks. The manager at my high school video store was so cool that not only would he let me rent Russ Meyer movies but after about a year of me renting stuff he like, he asked me to work at the store.

Also, one time some kids from Maine started a one week guest membership and then went back to Maine with our copy of Rad. The manger called them and shouted "WE KNOW YOU HAVE RAD AND WE WANT IT BACK OR YOU'LL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES*" or something to that effect. They mailed it back.


*the consequences in the VHS era were pretty high, that was back when rental stores ad at least per tape, sometimes over 0, and we had their mom's credit card number on file.


I was in Newfoundland for the last couple of weeks and it actually warmed my heart a bit to see that they still have some video stores hanging on up there (even though it should be depressing, since it's a sign of how bad their economy is right now).

Yeah. The place I'm thinking about is just some Gelato place now, about 3 doors down from another Gelato place. I don't even know what Gelato is.. :(
